Last leaf hangs
World in brown and tan
Calm descends

Fading light
Frost nips bright colors
November

The above haikus were written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This week was poet’s choice. I chose to do two haiku in a 3-5-3 pattern.
Every year I have written a poem about voting on election day. This year? Well…
Ballot box
Waits with open mouth
Please feed it!
Better? ;)
And what a month since then!

(eye roll) tell me about it. The election should be long done, but, then, who expected less…

Perhaps calm will descend after all. November is the perfect word for ending a haiku. (K)

“November” – says it all, doesn’t it ;) I do hope that the calm does descend after this week of high tensions.

Great picture and haikus, Trent. I fed the box early so I didn’t have to go to the poll. What a roller coaster.

I voted a couple of weeks early, so Tuesday being the big day felt a little surreal. Yes, it has been quite the roller coaster ride this last week…

I voted the day before the election. So easy, just dropped it off by the police station. In our little town, that took all of 30 seconds. :)

It was super easy in our small town as well – a box outside of the town clerk’s window, so she could keep an eye on it. Worked great!

Excellent haiku and senryu, Trent. I’m awaiting the final results. I just want this all to be over. We have a long road ahead to repair this country. <3

Thanks, Colleen! Yes, I am waiting (haven’t checked the news in an hour…) and hoping for the best. I’m sure it won’t be all of the way over today, but hopefully some small resolution. And, yeah, a long road ahead any way it goes…

I pray for peace and healing. Somehow we have to come together as a country. Fingers crossed, Trent. <3

I agree, we need to somehow come together. Right now there are a few sources of information (or misinformation) that are purposefully trying to pull us apart – I have no idea how to deal with that, but hopefully someone smarter than me can figure it out!

I know. I feel the same way. It’s so disheartening. 🤦🏼♀️

It is, but we can only keep positive and try to push for change for the better.

Thanks! As to the day, I voted a couple of weeks ago, so it all seems a little surreal…

Yep … You a couple of weeks ago … others a couple of times. ;)

lol, I wish I knew how to do it a couple of times ;) (Not that I would – I hold voting sacred…)

One year I went to work (at a golf course with a conference center) … the conference side is a polling location. As I was walking toward the building, the volunteer said something to me and I couldn’t resist saying something like —- I already voted, can I vote here too?

lol, I’m sure the volunteer was either flustered or laughed – no in between on that one.

Let’s say she didn’t laugh.

Thank you for this beautiful photo plus wise words. I particularly like your first one because of how it ends: “Last leaf hangs/World in brown and tan/Calm descends.” I need to summon/evoke as much calm as I possibly can today…

Thanks! November always seems calm, but today.. I’m with you! I need something for my nerves.
