Last week was stressful. It wasn’t just what you are thinking. Work was tough. There was a mis-delivery that was not fun. Etc. But this weekend more than made up for it!
I spent the entire weekend on Cape Cod. It was unseasonably warm, and was sunny. I did a long walk on my favorite beach both Saturday and Sunday, rolling up my pant-legs and wading in the (frigid) water.

I took a long walk in the woods. It was gorgons! No photos, but the trees were all red, ranging from bright to brick, orange, from copper to gold and back, different dark yellows and many, many shades of green. A few weeks ago, New Hampshire was aflame in autumn color, and now the Cape was smouldering in the hot embers of that color.

I also made it out on the kayak a couple of times for very long paddles. The water was clearer than I have ever seen it. It was calm. There was almost nobody out on my first paddle, but I did share the water with a few boats on the second (I paddle at the same speed as the boats traveling in the no wake zone, so I followed the boats).

As I said in my Tuesday poem from last week, there is a calm in November. The world seems to be holding its breath. It is still alive, but getting ready to hunker down for winter.
That was my smile for the week – enjoying a peaceful weekend on Cape Cod.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
I want to be barefoot on a beach – it has been cold!

My husband and I didn’t get to take our annual beach vacation this year. I missed it so much. We always visit Wrightsville Beach near Wilmington North Carolina. It is a beautiful spot. I have never been to Cape Cod but would certainly like to visit one day. I am glad you were able to enjoy this calming time.

I’m sorry you weren’t able to take your normal vacation. it has been a bad year for a lot of things like that – I haven’t seen my parents in over a year! Cape Cod is great, though you may think the water a bit cold ;)

I just love your smile! I loved your poem too. I love your sentiment, a calm in November! Although I have made some huge changes in my life personally, I am looking forward to a great coming year! Here is my smile post. :D

There is something about November that is very calm – the world seems to be holding its breath. Of course, this year, well… Always great to have something to look forward to in the coming year :) I’ll stop by in a few minutes.

There is something very soothing about being around the water. Great photos. I love stepping in peoples footprints on the sand. We used to try surf boat waves as a kid such fun. Have a fantastic rest of the week.

Being around the water is very relaxing and soothing. Long walks on the beach is my version of meditation. Thanks, I hope you have a wonderful week :)

Thanks! The sunset was great, though the photo is a bit blurry (the sunsets the last few nights have been great).

What a wonderful place to spend the weekend! I hold onto the dream of walking our local beach. I usually like warm dry weather but last week a happy dance was in progress as I celebrated some long overdue rain

It is a wonderful area, and love being able to spend time here. Someday, it will be my full time home… We had some long overdue rain in October – we really needed it, but I will admit that I missed the outside time ;) I’ll be by in a few to check it out.

Whenever I have my grand kids in my post, that is where my biggest smile goes to:) Love the patterns in the sand:)

I am sure the grand kids make you smile, in a post or not :) I do love the ripples and patterns in the sand. They are so fascinating.

Cool photos especially the footprint one, really like that 😀. You made me smile with your trebly funny joke on my post. I also laughed when my Mum told Matt the birthday cake he made me should be named the death of music 🎵 because it looked like blood 🩸 dripping down the side. He’d called it Orcakestra.

Thanks, Charlotte! Glad you liked my silly pun. “The Death of Music” sounds like a John Cage/Stockhausen collaboration gone wrong ;) Though naming the cake “Orcakestra” is a stroke of genius, as it is kind of a triple pun.

A lovely weekend, Trent, I love the ocean.

It was a lovely weekend :) I was always a mountain person, but the older I get, the more I enjoy being by the ocean. Or, perhaps, it is a return – I grew up on a Great Lake at the exact same latitude as my place on Cape Cod (now is perhaps 15 km south, but close!), so this area feels like “home” in a way that no place else I have lived has.

That’s lovely for you, Trent. I hope to live at the coast some day.

There is something about the coast which is just a little different, in a good way.

What a perfect weekend – especially if your week was rough.
Our colour is pretty much a thing of the past. You have that wild tree here and there that doesn’t follow the crowd. Pretty spectacular when you look at the big picture.

It was a great weekend :) The color in New Hampshire is almost gone. I’m still on Cape Cod, and just in the last 24 hours a lot of the reds and oranges have gone brown. Still pretty!

No doubt. Most of our trees are bare and there is this one just bursting with colour. I guess it decided not to follow the crowd!

Radical tree. Sounds like a good name for a rock band ;)

It has been quite a doozy, and it might get worse before it gets better… but at least nature is calming :) And it was a good weekend :)

I like the contrast between the smooth beach with footprints and the one with ripples. Most of the maple leaves have fallen here as well. The color is mostly on the ground.

Most of the maple is gone, but I was surprised with how colorful it still is down here on Cape Cod – New Hamspshire is mostly brown and beige… When I turned back and saw those footprints, I had to get a photo…
