If We Were Having Coffee on the 21st of November, 2020

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and sit down here. A put a cushoin on the chair so your bum doesn’t freeze, though it is actually quite nice out. I’ll get you a nice large mug of super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea, a hot cocoa or other beverage. The weather has been weird. On Wednesday it only edged above freezing (may 33 or 34 f, 1 C), but with the wind, it felt like mid-January, and then on Friday it was short-sleeved shirt weather! Today is slightly warmer than average, but not as warm as yesterday! Oh, were are we? Some may recognize that photo at the top as begin from New Hampshire.

It was an odd week. Work was busy, as always, but it was not insane and a lot slower than the last few. I didn’t have two Lions Club meetings over the week, as I did last week. As I said, the weather was odd.

Things I did do – I got back into the running habit (three times in the last week) after being slightly off in October and early November (averaging just under once a week). I also did my weight/strength exercises three times last week, so I did some type of exercise every day except for Wednesday. I had massage on Wednesday. I walked dogs and played with them – I play hard with the dogs, running, chasing, fighting over toys, etc. That in itself can be exercise! And since they wanted to go up the hill into the woods a lot… yep. I did a few walks on my own. I played a lot of music (with my fingers – new synthesizer). I played even more music. Hmmm… I did a lot of music playing… I did a little work on The Old Mill, or at least I drew a map for it.

That is about. I stayed busy. I never watch TV (the biggest time sucker in the Universe – I hate TV). I did watch some YouTube videos (OK, time suckers as well ;) ). I read a lot of news. I am reading a book on mathematics. It is interesting, but only talks about advanced math in non-technical language, so I may dig out some real math books, like some I have on Group Theory, or Differential Equations for Scientists or something with a bit of meat on the bones. (Yes, I have a Mathematics degree and have about 50 books on advanced math that I haven’t read since my college days…). I’ve actually started to get interested in astrophysics, so I actually may brush up on my advanced math so I can dig into the advanced physics (I recently watched a Great Courses course on Physics that did NOT use Calculus and hated it since I took Calculus based Physics in college and have since discovered that 90% of that was slightly off since it should have all been differential equations, not simple derivative and integrals. I want the real stuff that they teach doctorate students, dammit! ;) ). lol, yes, you might e a nerd if… ;)

Anyway, it is a gorgeous day out there, and I have a lot of running around to do in the stupid car as well, so I will sign off.

Thanks for stopping by! f you have a coffee share, I will try to stop in and say hi, but I will admit that my blogging time has been limited recently, and visiting has been down :(

Have a great weekend!

The coffee share is hosted over on Eclectic Alli.  The link to join is here.

our temperatures are averaging 33/34 degress celcius hey thats just a few degrees lower than the temperature of a healthy human so yeah its kinda really really hot…
and going out running is definitely a recipe for a heat stroke
so I am just here and dreaming of chilling in the freezer.

    have a awesome week

Yow, a little too warm for me! But then, you are moving towards summer as winter creeps up on us. I have read that there are parts of Africa south Asia that may become too hot for humans if the climate change models are correct. I hope not, it’s already to hot! Have a great week and stay cool.

Well… Here we are shutdown again…grrrr. So, I’m home. Riding my stationary everyday 5miles or until foot hurts too much. Using pain as indicator to stop. I started this last week finishing nano. No music beyond sing with radio lately. Just haven’t been in the mood for composing or playing. A new synth sounds cool!😊 hubby is home for the next 9 days…may God have mercy! Already he’s wiped his hard drive! So I’m offline until things reopen. Have a great week.

Shutdown is tough. Glad you are getting some exercise in. I’m sure it helps. You’ll have to think of another good writing project to keep you busy after nano is done ;) I hope you have a great week (even with your hubby being home all of the time ;) ).

Hey Trent. Of all the disciplines I’m not functional in, math is most likely the one I regret the most because it is everywhere. We chatted a bit many months ago about astrophysics and I’m still pretty good with it but don’t spend much time in that head space anymore. Learning about writing, meeting folks who know the industry and actually writing are much more interesting these days. From what I’ve learned, “publishing” is almost indistinguishable from self-mutilation, so I’m currently not big on the idea.

Publishing is not self-mutilation – it is the anticipation and waiting after it is published that is self-mutilation ;) I’ve had this ready to go for almost a year, but it is all of the other things out there that have kept me back from pushing the button…
My mind often makes large jumps, but once it hits something it likes, there is this laser focus on it. Well, until it goes bounding off again… Different sciences have always been at the top of the list of places my mind likes to settle. Once there, and I start digging, I passed the “intelligent layman” stage ages ago, and even the undergraduate courses start to bore me, so… The only way to see what is “really” happening (well, at least catch up with more recent research) is to delve into the higher maths. So while mathematics can be fascinating on their own, it is what they can help you understand that is the big reason to jump in.
Anyway, it was a super busy weekend. I hope to make it over to your place for coffee later today. Unfortunately, one reason it was busy is that work called. On a Sunday. yeah, still working on it… Anyway, have a great Thanksgiving week!

If we were having coffee, I would have had to take your picture. it was exciting. We haven’t done anything is so long I think I’ve forgotten HOW to do anything. If we go visit friends in Connecticut, they’ll make us quarantine. But we are ALREADY in quarantine. What more can we do? Lock ourselves in our closets? I’m not being unreasonable, but people our age are REALLY careful..

Massachusetts just put a restriction on NH, which means if I go to the Cape over Thanksgiving (my original plan), I won’t be able to leave the house. Great. We’ll stay here. It is crazy. I’m less effected than most people, working from home and spending time outside far away from people, only going out when absolutely necessary, but…

So my parents are still having people visit them! (not us) My dad is in super high risk (87 and a heart condition). My mom is healthy, but she’s in her 80s as well. I think it is insane, but they are in Ohio, so there is little I can do about it.

Thanks for the strong cup of joe! ☕ I’m still adjusting to my new hours, loving them and I too am trying to fit everything in including reading blogs and visiting, and writing too! You have had such weather swings, but am happy you have been able to get your exercise in. I’m still struggling with that too! Lol 🙃🙂
You remind me of the men in my family, my Dad was a psychiatrist/neurologist and very nerdy! He was a chess player which I think is really all about math and almost a concert pianist! My nephew works for JPL (very nerdy) and my son graduated with a physics degree, minor in math. My other son is computer science. Anyways, I love how you want to read a math book!! Lol – cool beans, nerds are cool. 😀 I’m a nerd too, just LOVE everything Star Wars and Star Trek! And any other Space movies. Enjoy your weekend! 🥰

So a nephew at JPL and a niece who tracks space junk for the military? lol just stopping there, it sounds like a great family, but then there are physicists, computer nerds, neuro-psychiatrists, etc (a good friend of my wife’s is a top shelf neuro-psch – he can’t tell us about his cases, but we can guess, reading the Boston Globe ;) ). I guess there is a lot of math in your family!
It is hard to keep up with it all!
Glad that you are loving the new job as you adjust to the hours and such!

      Have a wonderful week!

Yeah, every other week I think twice before I go get my massage… She is careful and follows the rules, but it can be scary. I need to attend those MNA meetings, but so far I haven’t even tried to kick the habit, so they just laugh when I inquire ;)

lol, yeah, I’m a math nerd, but I most likely will get a chapter or two in and give up…

For some odd reason, back in the early summer I grew depressed whenever I picked up The Old Mill. I am trying to restart it! Hopefully late this year or early next. Thanks for the encouraging word!

I hear you. I got far enough into my own novella to have it read by a friend, one I knew would give an unbiased opinion even if it would hurt my feelings. She said it was a good, fast-moving story and a fun read, but even so I got depressed, decided it was crap anyway, and set it aside. Now I’m ready to pick it up again. I’ll need a couple of more beta readers at some point. Would you be interested in doing that for me?

I think more authors than we know do that – get depressed about a work for no reason. I guess it is part of the process.
Sure, I’ll beta read your novella :)

lol, there are a few of us nerds out there… Of course, the reason I’d do it is so I could use that knowledge to further my knowledge in other areas – math is the basic building block of science ;) Have a great weekend!
