A whirling white mix
Crystalline forms pirouette
Grand dance of winter
***
Written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This week we were given two words but could only use synonyms. The words were mingle and drift. I wrote a haiku.

There is a piece of music by Claude Debussy, “Snow is Dancing” or, another translation, “Snowflakes are Dancing”. I was thinking of that. I love the electronic version by synth genius, Isao Tomita:

Very nice, all, from poem to image to music :)

This is what I like about winter. (K)

I do enjoy a good snow, and it can be beautiful, but sometimes… (We had a wet sloppy snow that turned to ice last week)

Well after a day or two when its been trodden and becomes grey….

Yeah. Sometimes it stays nice, pristine and pretty for a while, but this week wasn’t one of those times!

Last eve at 25 F it was too cold to snow. But there was frost in the morning :)

We had some warm heavy snow over the weekend, but it turned to ice… not as pretty as the snow of the poem ;)

We only get heavy snow maybe twice during the winter. And a blizzard of several feet maybe every 3 or 4 (or more) years.
Snow can be picturesque, especially at dawn and dusk, before any animal or melting action :)

Beautiful photo, beautiful haiku, and beautiful music. You nailed it, Trent. :-)

Thanks, Diana. I think I was 12 when I discovered the music, mostly because I liked the picture of the synthesizer on the back cover of the album ;) But I’ve loved Debussy ever since, both acoustic and electronic.

I was in college when I started listening to classical music much more closely. Debussy is a favorite.

I did start getting deeper into it during college as well.

grand dance indeed – and your photo shows that quiet moment maybe after all the dancing

Thanks, Y. I think I took the photo just after a storm, but don’t remember – it is from my kitchen window looking out over our corner of town.

What a lovely haiku, Trent. I miss the snow, although when we lived in Colorado we saw plenty. Your photo is seasonal and inviting. Perfect for the season. <3

Thanks, Colleen. I hate to admit it, but I would miss the snow if I moved south. I just wouldn’t miss driving in it ;)

Right. Driving in it, sucks… but when you’re retired, its not as bad. You can pick and choose when you want to go out. LOL! I miss the seasons. In AZ you go from 110 degrees to 75 degrees or lower in one day. Like someone flipped a switch. You’re either hot, or cold! LOL! :D

I do love living in a place with all four seasons. Also a place that doesn’t hit 110 very often!

Yes! We were over 110 degrees for over 100 days this year. π₯΅π€―
