A day at the park is always exciting. The roar of the rides, the screams of the crowds. Music fills the air, yeah, hokey reproductions from another era, but everyone loves it. At least at the park.
But today the park is empty. There are no lines to stand in. No smell of popcorn and hotdogs.
A man sits at a solitary picnic table in a place that should have been crowded with tables and packed with people.
“Where is everyone?” I ask.
“Where have you been the last six months, in a cave?”
I smile. He wouldn’t believe me.

Thanks. He still hasn’t said where he was over the last year ;)

I found this wonderfully humorous as I thought: Yep Caveman, you’ve done well.

Don’t we all wish we could be that caveman! Thanks.

I quite envy him, wherever he was! Nice one Trent.

I agree – I think most of us would rather not have lived through 2020!

In today’s world, it would be hard to be ignorant of events, unless you had been deep in a primitive jungle somewhere. Or on a deserted island. Or asleep.

Abducted by aliens. Time travel from the past. Coma. i don’t know, but I don’t really believe him ;)

I wonder where he was, that he hasn’t even heard of what’s going on? I am sure I wouldn’t believe him!

I have no idea where he was (abducted by aliens? Lost in the jungle? Really in a cave? a coma?) where ever it was, I don’t believe him either…

I am guessing he was abducted by aliens and they just returned him. And there was no popcorn in the alien world :D :D :D

Alien abduction – that’s one possibility ;) If that was it, then, you are right, no popcorn in the alien world, which is why he went to the amusement park first thing – to get some.

Great story Trent and it could possibly be true too!

Thanks. I’m sure someone who was out of it since February would be shocked at how the world is today!

Can I go back into that coma for a few more months, please? (Or lost in the deepest Amazon, or kidnapped by aliens, or…)

I do love the smell of popcorn and hotdogs. Great last line. So mysterious.

Back during the time that I actually worked in an office, I always hated it when coworkers made popcorn – if you are going to do it, you have to share, it’s a rule! But then, the amusement park experience is almost as much the smells as the sounds and the action. Thanks.

I agree, it’s the combination of all senses. I remember, too, working in the office. It seemed to be a thing to eat popcorn for lunch.

Thanks. And, no, I’m not going to tell you where I was the last 12 months that I missed all of this… ;)

Imagine you had been and you’d missed out on 2020 – might actually be quite fortunate!

I think a lot of people wished they had missed 2020! Who cares why – alien abduction, lost in the deepest Amazon, coma – as long as you missed it…

Dear Trent,
I thought I knew where you were going but that last line left me questioning. Good one.

Thanks, Rochelle. I think everyone will have a guess at the second to the last line, but then I’m hoping everyone says, “Wait, what? Where were you?!?” with the last line ;)
