Hello and Welcome! It is still dry, if cold, so let’s sit here outside and enjoy the view out into the woods. Ahhh… relaxing, no? I’ll get you a nice large mug of super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea, some hot cocoa or other hot beverage – you’ll need it as it is still below freezing, even if nice. Were are we? Some may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.
I’ll start off by talking about last Saturday. I did tell you few things on my last coffee share, but skipped some. First, right before I wrote it, I had a nasty fall. I’m OK, but I landed flat on my back with a “Womp!” like Charlie Brown when he tries to kick the football. I was already soaked to the bone, and this didn’t help… Besides the raging storm, I knew that it was Josie’s last day. I don’t know why I knew, but I did. I did cuddle her and such. She still moved around the house occasionally, but I knew it was the end. She didn’t last the night. Click here for the Tribute to Josie.

So last week I also talked about a storm. Well, we were on the line, so it stayed just above freezing. The snow was wet and mostly melted. But then, when it was all done, the temperature dropped, so the few inches/several centimeters, turned to ice. Yuck. It has been a very cold week, like mid-January instead of early December. Frigid, in fact, with some days not seeing the top side of freezing. And the air was damp, so it felt even colder. The last few days were a little warmer. Today will be just above freezing and rainy, but tomorrow should be nice.
So, cold dog walks, but no runs until yesterday. It had been a week since I had last run, and I could feel it. I did do other exercise, which is good. I finished the latest round of editing on my book The Old Mill and sent it to a couple of people that will go over it with a fine-tooth comb to ensure I caught all of the mistakes.
I also played a lot of music. I posted a quick improvisation on YouTube – I had made a “toy piano” sound that I thought was cool, and… Anyway, so far it is the least popular thing I’ve posted on YouTube in years, as far as number of views… Oh well, if you are curious:
(Click here if you don’t see the video)
And that was mostly it. I started some nerdy studying, like I talked about a few weeks ago. My opinion is that humans need to be constantly learning new things. That is what it means to be human.
Anyway, got to go. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you had a great week and have a good week ahead. If you have a coffee share, I will try to visit.
Have a wonderful weekend!
The coffee share is hosted over on Eclectic Alli. The link to join in is here.
yikes I dont remember the last time I fell, its definitely not cool… at least nothing broken or damaged that warmth change of cloths and a hot beverage couldn’t fix.
Sorry about Josie… crazy how we just know somethings

Falls are not cool, and this was pretty scary since it knocked the wind out of me. Thanks about Josie – she will be missed. Even though she was still active, yeah, crazy that I knew.

Falls are nasty. The main thing here, was that Saturday was not a good day :( I did try to make the most of the time I had that day with Josie, but not much compensation knowing she most likely wouldn’t make it through the night.

I know exactly what you mean, my friend…

Sorry to hear about your fall, and from the comments it sounds like you’re better. And it’s really cold there, brrr… (I have to remember not to complain about the cold here, it just isn’t really)
Our furry friends fill our hearts and take a tiny bit with them when they leave us. But I always have furry friends around to help fill the wholes! Josie was beautiful! β€οΈ I’m late again to coffee share. One of these weekends I’ll get my act together! π Oh and I loved your improv! And your nerdy learning is cool. I agree we must keep challenging ourselves in some way. Have a good week ahead!

The effects of the fall didn’t last too long, it was just another rotten thing that happened on a rotten day. Thanks again, re Josie. She was sweet :) I hope you have a good week and find a little time to breath ;)

Thanks. Josie was a sweetie and will be missed. I used to ski a lot and so would have a few really bad tumbles a year, but it’s been a while since I have had such a hard fall. I was a bit sore for a few days, but it cleared up.
I hope you have a wonderful week!

Thanks. Josie was a sweetie. The fall was scary since I landed 3 feet below were I started and it knocked the wind out of me, but glad it wasn’t serious!
I hope you have a great week.

Be careful falling those falls are not easy the older you get. Look into the special shoes that were suggested. I heard Texas got some sea turtles from Cape Cod I will email you the link to the article.

I typically wear my running shoes, which are great, or hiking boots once it is slick out, but I had on some “city” shoes because I had just got back from shopping, it was pouring rain (well, it had just turned to snow) and these are my driest shoes. They are also slick! I had meant to change them, but the dogs met me at the door, and… I saw the email, but haven’t read it. There are signs on all of our beaches to look for turtles and call immediately if one is spotted. I guess they do occasionally get trapped in the sold water.

Hey Trent. So sorry to hear about Josie. They do not only get under our skin, the manage to crawl very close to our hears where they carve out a neat little hole that feels so painfully empty when they leave us. It hurts and it’s the way it should be..If we ever reach the point that something like this doesn’t hurt – we have managed to lose some part of our humanity. I cope by trying to turn that pain into honor when I go through it, but it only redefines the pain some.
Convalescences.

Thanks, Gary. It is hard losing our furry family members. It is the worst part of “pet ownership” (that means when animals own us ;) ). Of course, all of the other furry family members are stepping in to try to help, and ti does to some degree. But I will always miss Josie (and Bartelby and Claudius and Brady and Elliot (last two boxers)).

Garry found this headline in Andy Borowitz’s column today. I’m still laughing.

lol, Riffing from your blogs subtitle, I think we need to be looking for intelligent life in the universe, not cultures that would actually take that case ;)

I’m sorry for your loss. Are yous till in pain after your fall? I actually got ice-bug shoes, winter shoes with a super grip for my long walks and hikes this week. Falling hurts more by the year I think..I hope you are not in too much pain. The weather is weird here as well, some cold days, then warm day, and a mix of rain/snow/ice and bare ground. It’s like the weather can’t make up its mind this year. I have spent a lot of time inside this week, at work we’ve been preparing for our Lucia celebration and at home I’ve been putting Ikea furniture together. I finally finished all the furniture tonight, I am so relieved. My new apartment is starting to feel like a home. Thank you so much for the coffee.

Thanks. I had some odd little aches and pains for a few days, but it is mostly gone now. I was inside much more than usual. I hope that isn’t foreshadowing the winter – last winter I was out a lot and was bale to run at least twice a week all of the way through. Glad your new place is starting to feel like home. Always good. I hope your weekend is going well :) I’ll top by in a bit to see if you are serving coffee at your place.

I’m sorry about your kittie-girl. You will miss her. I hope your weather gets way better than cold and ice soon! We had beautiful weather for 2 days, but now it will be colder. So I expect today or tomorrow you should have our beautiful weather.
