Yes, the clouds are beautiful, and, yes, looking up is one way to remember the natural world when surrounded by this artificial one called a “city”. But, no, that’s not why I’m looking up.
My mother always told me I had an overactive imagination. My father, when around, would just snort.
I remember once, when visiting the city, seeing that blue streak across the sky and knowing exactly what I saw. It was him. I could tell.
Of course nobody believed me.
But I believed, and do to this day.
And right now we need a superhero more than ever.

OK, I borrowed the title from a Laurie Anderson song…
The patterns in the sky are often amazing, just like our ability to write.

Yes, they can be fascinating. That is part of what makes us human – noting patterns and creating new ones.

Keep looking out the sky, he’s out there! Pigs fly too! 😀

lol, you might be right that I’ll see one of those pigs first… In the mean time, I guess we’ll just have to be our own super-people and learn to fix or cope with our own problems…

You know why we don’t see superman as much, its because all the telephone booths have gone. Great read Trent. I think I have wished you a happy new year, lol oh well here’s another Happy New Year may it be musically, mathematically, writingly, kayakingly in tune & full of all great things just for you.

lol, I’m sure that’s why we don’t. Thanks! I hope you have a great 2021!

Good take on the prompt Trent! We need a superhero for sure.

Thanks! yes we do… however, perhaps society can “grow up” and we can become our own superhero.

That’s an even better idea!

Very nice, Trent, and very much agree. 🙂👏

Thanks, Britta. Although we non-super humans seem to muddle our way through things, in many ways it is good that we don’t have a superman clean up our messes – hopefully we will eventually learn to take care of ourselves ;)

Superheroes are all very well, but our only way up is by pulling our own bootstraps.

I agree. The more we rely on a superman, the less self-sufficient we become. And, of course, we need to celebrate those more mundane heroes around us.

Get down here and give us a hand, dude…

Exactly. Sigh. Oh well, I guess I’ll go watch those other superheroes working done at the hospital as I wait…

We need a Superman who can help us to get our heads screwed on straight. I wonder if there are any of those flying around up above the clouds.

Perhaps there are, but so far they haven’t been able to get through to us blockheaded humans…

Is Superman real? Real enough! Long live superheroes!

Ingenious take on the prompt. Superheroes seem to be flavour of the year, don’t they?

Thanks. I think everyone is looking for those heroes today, though they are there in plain sight in the hospitals, etc….

Yes, we could use a Superhero… wait, we’re surrounded by them. Everyday, they are tending to the sick, comforting the broken souls, keeping us safe as we walk the streets in a daze. Don’t need to look far to see one… see, those flashing lights that just blew that intersection? That’s a few of our Superheros heading out on another call…. Happy New Year!

Superman Superman, wish I could fly like him

It would be nice. For some reason, the quote from the 1978 Superman movie came to mind “You’ve got me? Who’s got you!?”

I don’t remember the line but at least you’ve made it work

In that movie, the first time Superman reveals himself in public, he catches Lois Lane in midair as she’s falling from an incredible height and says something like, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you.” So she replies… Thanks.

Thanks! Not sure where all of the super heroes have gone, but the last I checked, they were doing overtime at the community hospitals ;)

Dear Trent,
We certainly could use a superman. Or I think of the line from Fiddler on the Roof, “Rabbi, we’ve been waiting for the Messiah all our lives. Wouldn’t this be a good time for him to come.” Wonderful take on the prompt.
Shalom and happy new year,
Rochelle

Thanks. To paraphrase, we’ll just have to continue to wait.. someplace else. Perhaps we can learn to solve our problems without superman, whether divine or comic-book style, as we wait. Given our past record, I’m not sure I’m too confident in that “perhaps” ;)

And why not? Wonderful take on the prompt.

Thanks. The why not is that if we are always waiting for some superman to solve our problems, we’ll never learn to solve them ourselves… Oh, wait, we still haven’t learned to solve our society’s problems. never mind ;)
