Look back
Where I have gone
History in footfalls
My feet now in the sand
Yearn to write more
Future

This was written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This week we are to use synonyms for the words Past and Present. Colleen also encouraged us to try using the form “Badger Hexastitch”, which is a six-line unrhymed poem with the syllabic form of 2-4-6-6-4-2.

I like what you did, Trent! And isn’t that the truth? Sometimes I feel like we have to look back at where we’ve been to figure out where we’re headed. History has a way of repeating itself. Did you like the rhythm of the syllables? Just a bit different than we usually do. <3

Thanks, Colleen. I think to plan your way forward, you need to know where you are (where you are starting from), so you need to know how you got there. Perhaps you got to the snow storm by driving out of the hot desert across the country ;) It was an interesting form. Something else that can be put to use :)

LOL! From the desert to the snow! I love it! Iβm so grateful for the traveling we were able to do. Makes you appreciate everything youβve experienced. For me, βbeen there, done thatβ could be my mantra. π

We are both finishing up projects that have taken years, so I guess it is time to reflect back…

Neat comparison, Trent; as deep as your sand-filled footfalls.

And I am finding that understanding where I’ve been is perhaps one of the best ways to grab hold of where I am going.

True. We have to know where we are to see a path ahead, and knowing how we got here is a big part of knowing where we are.

I am finding that more so as time goes on. UNderstanding where I have come from helps me understand my behavior in the moment and understanding that helps me to decide how I want to change it if at all.
