Precise lines define
A casual arrangement
All relaxed yet snug
Between exact and sloppy
Sketch my day in shades of life

This was written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This week she gave us two words, Loose and Tight, and asked us to include synonyms of those words. I chose to write a tanka today.
A little over a week ago I went through some sketch pads and found a few old drawings. If you remember, I used a pastel of Notre Dame for my poem last week. This drawing is from a class I took many years ago. I’ve been trying to find an excuse to use it, and now I have one :)
Wonderful sketch Trent and the tanka reminds me of our home at the moment after nearly a year of lockdown.. great interpretation of the prompt

Thanks. i will admit that my home, and life, tends a bit more towards the sloppy side ;)

I’m impressed by your still and moving life tanka and drawing too. I have envy of those who can draw and paint! Well done Trent.

Thanks! That is one of my problems – through my life I have loved so many of the arts that I have had a hard time sticking with one long enough to get to that “professional” level.

Yes I can understand that. My two are writing and amateur photography.

What a great drawing, Trent! I love this tanka… as you probably guessed… I like everything neat and tidy. I got a good chuckle for over this poem. <3

Thanks Colleen. When I rediscovered the drawing I knew I had to find a use for it! I tend a bit more towards the messy side…

You are so talented, in writing and drawing! Most excellent and impressive. Great post! I’m in between exact and sloppy… I’ll call my sloppy homey! 😏

How fun to find these sketches and bring new life to them with poetry. I really enjoyed this one, Trent. A wonderful tone to the poem. Perfect for the drawing. :-)

Thanks, Diana. Finding all of these drawings is also inspiring me to draw more, which is another benefit. If the muses are absent, a good picture is the perfect way to get that inspiration.

This is great Trent. I love the combination of the picture and the Tanka. Sloppily organized or rigid disorganization are both personal mottos I seek to follow.

Thanks. I think with life we all need to find a happy medium. Too sloppy and we are lost, to rigid and we aren’t really living.

How about exactly sloppy enough?

lol, I know that I am sloppy enough, and perhaps exactly sloppy enough to keep me sharp and yet not lose everything.

Ha! I prefer knowing where everything is! The problem is that I live with five little chaos-makers.
