They are coming!
Shhhh. Close your eyes.
I can’t sleep with them out there!
This bit of woods is special, a fairy forest.
Their guns are real, not fantasy!
Shhh. They are fairies of light, of good. The magic is powerful, but you need to believe.
Believe? Now?
They have a trail in the trees, one our enemy can’t see, because they are rough and can’t believe. You need to believe.
I hear them!
Close your eyes and see. We can catch the rail, escape.
But…
Shhh. Close your eyes. Do you see?
Yes…
“Stop, or we’ll shoot!”
Let’s go.

Remember – You do have to believe, keep that hope alive, even if you’ve reached the end of the track….
Oh! I so enjoy stories written in dialogue and I rarely do it! This is both soothing and intense. Good job!

Thanks! I do occasionally like to write these 100 word stories in dialog. I think that format works very well with the length.

I like how you wove a story around that message of keeping hope alive no matter what. We need that message reinforced on a regular basis.

It is a message we need to hear and say often. Thanks.

A piece of intense tension that makes you want to believe and trust, rather than stand and fight.

Standing and fighting does have its place, even if you know it will be your last fight, but sometimes trusting and believing are the best bet.

Your character believed just in time (whew)! Though it was suspenseful, I enjoyed the magic, Trent.

That was fun, immediately had me thinking of a kids/adult movie, Spiderwick magical fun with a hint of suspense. Have a wonderful up coming weekend.

Fascinating metaphor, Trent. It’s a pity the guns aren’t equally fictional. As to whether they get away – well, the jury’s still out, I think.

Thanks. The jury is still out, though there may be different ways of defining “escape”…

Ohhhh, I was right there with them, whispering. Great story scene. It could be for so many different situations, but I like the play of words you’ve laid out. Great inspiration this week. :)

I hope they got away. Believing you can is more than half the battle.

Believing is half the battle. I’m leaving this one open to the reader – either they really escaped or they “escaped” by not being captured and dying with a smile…

Well… it was good while it lasted! ;-) After all, they did catch the rail and escape, didn’t they?!
Loved it!

I’m leaving it up to the reader if they got away ;) Did you ever see the movie Brazil, a post-Monty Python movie directed by Terry Gilliam? Not saying anything about this story, but, well, there are possibilities…

The real world has a habit of ruining our dreams and fantasies.

I just hate it when the real world intrudes… but sometimes those fantasies are all that keep us moving.

Dear Trent,
I’m not sure Tinker Bell could make me believe. ;) Not when someone’s threatening to shoot. Good one.

Rochelle

You are right, it is hard to believe in Tinker Bell at a time like that! Thanks.

When one is being chased, one has to accept there might be another way. Don’t they have some Pixie Dust to help him? :)
Wonderful, Trent.

You do have to believe, keep that hope alive, even if you’ve reached the end of the track. Oo, now I wish I’d used that line in the story ;) Thanks, Dale.

I couldn’t resist, I just added the tag line “Remember – You do have to believe, keep that hope alive, even if you’ve reached the end of the track….” at the end of the post (not part of the story).

Love that you did!
Now… Do I play this week? (I did last week but didn’t link)
