Happy Spring everyone! OK, everyone in the northern hemisphere – happy autumn to those in the southern! It has been warm the last few days and it will stay pretty warm coming up, reaching 72 F/22 C later this week. I have seen my first crocuses, though not in my yard. It is nice. But that isn’t my smile.
Because of restrictions due to the virus, our Lions Club hasn’t had the usual fund raisers so we decided to do a raffle. We talked to some local restaurants and a hardware store and got some donations. A few members also mad some large donations to the raffle. We sent a mailer to address in town and had a good response!
A few of us met on Saturday at a local downtown “park” (It is tiny, shoved between buildings) and did the drawing. I am the president this year, so I gave a little speech and did the drawing (I didn’t buy tickets, so…). It all went well. I was hoping to have a video to post, but I haven’t seen it yet (it might be awful anyway ;) ).
My smile this week is seeing all of these people in person, even if we were all wearing masks, and drawing the winners from the very successful raffle!
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).
Cool

Well done, Mr President! It must have been quite an event – the buzz, the camaraderie … things that are lost on zoom. And all for a worthwhile cause!

It was nice to see everyone face to face after a year. (I have seen a couple of them individually, but not as a group). And it was for a good cause, helping some of the folk in our community that need it most.

I was a Rotarian and we do have a Lions Club in India. I particularly remember it for it’s contribution towards providing artificial limb. My uncle was an active member of Lions Club, am not sure if he still is. Great to know another Lion (that too a President) 😊
The spring with its pretty colorful blooms and of course my feathered friends make me smile. Here’s my weekly smile https://travelerinmeblog.wordpress.com/2021/03/24/beautiful-chirp-and-perch/

There are a few really good organizations out there. In general the Lions are supposed to support eye site/blind etc., but each club is free to do its own thing. Our town’s club does a lot to help people in need in our own community and people who donate like to know that their money is helping neighbors.
I’ve seen a few flowers, but we aren’t very far into spring here yet. I’ll be by to see your smile in a few minutes :)

I guess they choose the support based on need and demand of the community they are serving. It is good to have such societies that serve with a heart.

Not many smiles this week but I smiled when I read this, dreaming about the weekend when we should be able to meet another couple outdoors.

Sorry there weren’t many smiles on your side. I am lucky to live where there is no strict lock-down. We really can’t have large groups or anything, but 7 of us in a park, everyone staying a reasonable distance apart and all of us wearing masks, no problems. I do occasionally talk to friends outside and socially distanced without a mask, but select people in select places. Yeah, won’t it be great when the world can open up again?

Coming here with a smile, to rest from the wordpress blog battling with the new editor to embed the code for my meme/challenge All Seasons, which I’m not seem to be able to grasp in how to make it stick! Take your pick for a weekly smile:):) Finally figured out how to feature an image, and how to do the permalink, lol! Have a fun week, Jesh https://thejeshstudio.wordpress.com/2021/03/17/fredericksburg-texas

Don’t worry, once you get used to the new editor it isn’t bad and the things you do all of the time will be second nature (I’ll admit there are still a few frustrations….). I know you single out one element of your post hitting multiple challenges for the Smile, but I always take the entire post as the smile – there is usually something worth smiling about in every one of the photos! You too, have a great week :)

It was nice seeing the folk from Lions – there are a few people I bump into all of the time, since we walk and do out door activities, but it is a small circle. I did see your link.
Oh, I started Little Dorrit. I’m less than 100 pages into the 800 + page book, but it is a start…
I had half forgotten the interview! When you have time and are ready, but, now that you reminded me, it is very cool :)
