I don’t want to tell you all of the behind the scene’s secrets for this reunion, but, well, I do like to show of my, is it presumptuous of me to say “genius”?
The landscapers were a little confused. “You want the ground here perfect level but at a constant eight degree angle? The words ‘level’ and ‘angle’ are self-exclusive.”
“No, no, I need it perfectly flat, and looking level from a distance, but that angle has to be eight degrees.”
And then the furniture maker asking why I wanted the legs on one side of the very long table extended while the other end was cut off. If that table top wasn’t exactly eight degrees when finished, I’d have him start over – man, he was tough, but did it right.
The chairs were even more fun, but that is a whole other story.
So, Bilbo, that is why at this reunion of the “There and Back Again” adventure you can look across the table top and see right into Beorn’s eyes, though he is seven foot tall and built like a bear. As to the dwarves and the elf that the king sent, Legolas, they all are all at that same level, as am I, Gandalf.
See, I told you it would all work out!
What do you mean I forgot a place for Smaug?

This bit of silliness was written for the writephoto challenge. The challenge was created by and run by Sue Vincent for many years. Since she is no longer able to run it, KL Caley has volunteered, with Sue’s blessing to take it over. The photo at the top is KL’s photo and she gave us a key word, Table. This is KL’s second week and my first with the new challenge. You can join here.

Yes, I didn’t think of the mad hatter’s tea party, but in ways like that. You too, have a great weekend :)

This is very good, Trent. I must read it to my son. He loves The Hobbit.

I’m sure the first thing he’ll say is, “Legolas wasn’t in the Hobbti!” But Legolas was from Mirkwood, so if the elf king sent a representative… lol. Thanks, Robbie!

haha, good point. It is interesting that Tolkien changed the world’s view of elves from nasty creatures that lived in mounds to beautiful and kind hearted people.

There were a few big shifts between The Hobbit and TLotR, but that was one of the biggest.

Brilliant Trent. What a very clever explanation of the table! I loved it. Thanks for taking part in the https://new2writing.wordpress.com/2021/03/25/writephoto-table/ challenge. KL <3

Thanks! I had a social distancing story half written in my head when I noticed the sizes of the chairs. Ooops, that didn’t work, so… ;)

I’ll leave that for someone else – not sure how I’d work in the size difference!

Thanks, Diana. It was my second Tolkien influenced story this week (the first was my Carrot Ranch/Sue Vincent Rodeo entry).

That was the one. Obviously I read too much Tolkien as a kid. Nah, there’s no such thing as “too much Tolkien” ;)

Perfect explanation. ; ) I see you’ve got a theme going! Hubby and child started reading book 2 of the series last night!

Thanks! I had half forgotten that I had reposted the Carrot Ranch entry that was also a Tolkien theme, so I guess I have been doing it lately! I haven’t read the books in ages, though from the time I was 15 until I was 25 I used to read them at least twice a years, so I pretty much have them memorized ;)

They are masterfully created stories. Sounds like the words are now part of you. Our child is an aspiring fiction writer, so I think it will be excellent background for them too.

He was such a great story teller, one of the best. As to your child, if you are going to learn, learn from the best!

Yes, Tolkein’s world building and characterizations are a fantasy genre master class!
