This was a great week with a lot of smiles. It was the warmest week of the year so far and felt like spring. There were flowers on the ground and the trees are beginning to bud. i saw a snake and heard spring-peepers (frogs that come out in early spring). There were plenty of birds around.

I also finished a very rough draft of my latest book. I will sit on it for a while before going back and doing drafts. But it is great to get that first very rough draft done!
I was down on Cape Cod for the weekend. i took a long walk on my favorite beach, Chapin beach. It was a great.
Back in December a large tree that used to stand next to my house on Cape Cod fell. This weekend I had someone get rid of the tree and the large remaining stump. I also had a big tree that broke off 30 feet/10 m up. the top of the tree was laying across other trees. They took that down and got the top down. There were also three small that were tangled in my electric lines, so those were taken as well. And then I had two large brush piles that they removed for me. So a lot of work, and it cost about as much as I thought it would cost to remove one tree, not five! I did a little bit of cleanup on my own and will do more the next time I am down.
That was my smile this week, a beautiful start to spring and some much needed spring cleanup/tree work on my house on Cape Cod.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Goodness! There must have been a lot of strong winds for so many trees to fall! And that is a lot of work to do in a weekend!
Thank you for the lovely purple flower – my favourite colour!

I love Cape Cod, but it gets windy! One of the trees fell during a first in almost a century tornado.
It is a very pretty flower :)

The challenge with seaside homes, I guess – the winds and weather are just that much more intense!

Yes, and Cape Cod stick far out into the ocean, with the Gulf Stream (a major current in the Atlantic) just off of its coast, so it is very exposed.

Love the flower.
Was in the hospital last week and didn’t get a chance to do it so here is this week’s.

Sorry you were in the hospital. I always like seeing the first flowers of the year.

Thanks! I love flowers, but not too many around where I live. Have to travel to other areas to enjoy them.

So glad you got your trees sorted out – it’s always a bummer to see these grand trees break. Have a lovely week!

It is a bummer to see them fall and/or break. With the three small ones, I hate cutting live trees, but it needed to be done. You too, have a wonderful week!

It is. I have a tree growing inside my hedge that is causing grief to my neighbour. I won’t be sad to.see that one go!
And I have to ask the city if I can have pine cut that worries me every time it is super windy. Plus, I want to widen my driveway and it’s in the way.

I have a few that I may need to talk to the town about – if they are as inexpensive as the ones I just did, I may it sooner than later.

I hear you! Here, it is such a pain in the butt. You are not allowed to cut down trees on your own land. Pffft.

I’m not sure about the town I live in in NH, but I know that is true on Cape Cod.

I’m thinking it’s the case in many places. And I am not completely against it but man. I had a huge blue spruce smack dab in the middle of my front lawn (old how I bought from my parents). We cut it down as it was over 30 feet high and the pinecones flew over the house into the pool and all the neighbours were nervous every time there was lots of wind. Cost to us? $900 fine! Plus we had to buy another tree to replace it.

Yeah, that fine sucks.

I am glad you were able to get your trees taken care of. We have been removing dead stuff that is coming back at the root, raking lots of leaves, and just doing cleanup. We have our own brush pile that will get burned when it is big enough. Most of the leaves Jack recycles into the garden.

Getting the trees taken care of was huge. It is that time of year – I do have a lot of cleanup to do. I also need to make a mulch area both for leaves, and something contained for waste veggie matter. I don’t have a garden, but I can use it on flowers.

The dirt around here is black gumbo so this helps our dirt have more of the powder look than the sticky clay look. You can use a trash can but they fill up fast compost is supposed to be stirred occasionally. Jack has a compost can as well that all our veggie scraps go into.

I have a few neighbors with great compost systems and have been planning. Most likely I will do something simple with a little chicken wire and posts to hold it.

I love it when projects come in less than expected! I don’t miss the after winter yard clean up. But never getting a break from endless yard work gets old, too.

Spring cleanup is awful, but I guess so would 12 month a year yard care… Everything on the Cape is so expensive that I was super surprised that it cost much less than expected.

Happy for you that spring came! Since I now live in the suburbs, I’ve only seen daffodils, and blooming trees! Have a happy week:)https://thejeshstudio.wordpress.com/2021/03/24/in-and-outside-the-city

It is mostly daffodils and crocuses, but after the dull colors of winter, that purple and yellow is great! You too, have a great week :)

Yes, a big weekend for you! After the dull, monochromatic winter I do love seeing the first spring flowers, like the crocuses. I’ll be over in a few minutes.

The walk on the beach definitely sounds so lovely. I’m glad it’s warming up where you are and there’s lots of birdsong. That snake though, eek!

Walks on the beach are always great. lol, the poor little snake was sunning himself on the road and I couldn’t scare it off. I hope a car didn’t get it.

The walk on the beach was great – I have been for some winter walks on a closer but not as nice beach in the last couple of months, but this was much better. The sound of chainsaws, though… well, let’s just say my dogs were less happy with the tree work than I was ;) I’ll be by in a few minutes :)

It was a very good weekend and the tree work was quicker, easier and less expensive than I imagined. It is sunny but very windy here today. Tomorrow will be very nice. I think I saw your smile already, but I’ll stop in soon anyway :)

Trees falling sounds a bit scary, but glad the clean-up made you smile. It feels good to get things done! Love the photo and the color of the flower. Looks like Easter! I’ve had lots of smiles this week too. You can read my March recap here https://picture-retirement.com/2021/03/28/the-captain-has-turned-off-the-seatbelt-sign/ I’ll update the post with a pingback.

With the purple crocuses and yellow daffodils, it does look like Easter around here. The one big tree was pretty scary – we weren’t there when it fell, but it was just a couple of feet from the house – if it would have fallen about 5 degrees closer, it would have smashed through the house…
I’ll be by to see your smile soon.

Sounds like a lovely start to Spring. What made me smile this week was my children’s happy faces after a day at the beach, and seeing them play with their cousins. Also, time with my husband as he was on Spring break.

The change from winter to spring was almost instant, and so far spring is great. Children’s happy faces are always worth a few smiles, as is time on the beach and time with a spouse.

Hi Trent,
I have never sent a ping-back (not good technically) BUT I have smiled several times this week..Walking around the pool because of lock-down, low-growing Jasmine caught my nose unawares…Oh the perfume! Spring is definitely here in Spain. And my husband is a bit of a joker and usually has something amusing to say!! Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and you cry alone! Cheers!
