Hi! I am going to start this smile with a sad story. We lost our cat Albert last week. You can read here. Albert has not been healthy for literally years, and the last few months… anyway, we already had an appointment to see kittens at a shelter on Saturday, so up we went.
Anyway, here is Alexander.

He is about 8 months old, very sweet and gentle. He quickly got past the barriers we put up (lol) and explored the entire house. Our remain cat, Grace Kelly, has not warmed up yet, but he’s super interested in her. The dogs are super interested in him! But he isn’t ready quite yet…

yes, those are webs on his nose – he explored everywhere, including places that haven’t been dusted in a while ;)
I’ll write more about Alexander in a later post.
And that is my smile, a new kitten in the house.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Albert – RIP. You’ll long be remembered

Alexander is great, and has been turning the house upside-down since he has been here. It didn’t take him long to make himself at home here! I’m just hoping the other animals will all settle soon ;)

He has turned the house upside down! But it is good. there are times that every house needs a kitten to turn it upside down :) And, yes, a little less sad.

I’m sorry for your loss Trent, but Alexander is a sweetheart. Albert was equally lovely.

Thanks, it is hard to lose our fur children even when, like Albert, it isn’t unexpected. And Albert was a very handsome guy with an oversized personality. Alexander is cute and quite and very affectionate :)

I know. They leave such a hole. I miss our Maggie terribly. She was almost 16 and adopted us when she was 7 weeks. We are looking for another dog, but so far, no luck.

I’m sure there is still that big hole Maggie left. When we lost our last dog, I wanted to wait a year to recover, but my wife insisted, so we started looking right away, and in many ways I am glad we got Fiyero – I still missed Elliot fiercely, but it helped a lot.

I lasted 6 days after losing Barney and Maggie came into our lives March 11th 2005. I was adamant I didn’t want another dog after her, but I have not handled her loss very well, and miss her more every day. Somewhere there is a furbaby waiting for us. I am lucky in that there are so many dogs round us, I can get my puppy fix. It helps, and people have been so kind.

Hopefully the right one will turn up soon.

We shall see. The local rescues have no dogs up for adoption, those further afield are relying on photos rather than meetings (we believe the dog will choose us as both Maggie and Barney did), and dog breeders are asking thousands of pounds for pups.

You did great going to the shelter!
Welcome, Alexander! You are a lucky kitty, and gorgeous too!

Providing homes from the shelter is always good :) And Alexander is handsome and affectionate little guy! (All of our cats have been named after royalty, so I think he is “The Great”, but officially he is “Hamilton”, from the musical ;) ).

Oh, yes it is and with that name, he’s destined to shine! 😉

He is… Of course, if I want him to be royal, I could think “Russian” instead of “Greek” and go with Alexander Nevsky – I love the music Prokofiev wrote for this prince! But Alexander is great (pun intended) no matter which historic character i chose.

I love Prokofiev, however this Alexander is closer to the …Great one, in looks and character! ;-)

I agree. We actually have a modern bronze of Alexander the Great. It was supposed to be part of a fountain set, but we just have Alexander. I need to get some photos to post….

In ways he is Albert’s opposite, but both were/are great :) Alexander is a wonderful kitten. Thanks.

Welcome sweet Alexander! A new kitty is so precious ~ I actually dreamt we took in a stray little one. ❤️
Sorry about Albert. 😢

New kittens are great, and Alexander has been a joy :) With that dream, maybe there is a new kitten in your future ;)
It was very sad losing Albert, but since it was not unexpected, it wasn’t as bad as Josie was last December. Albert had been sick for so long it was almost a relief – there were no more worries.
