The Weekly Smile for the 31st of May, 2021 #weeklysmile

Today is Memorial Day here in the US. It is a bit of a traditional kick off to summer, though this weekend was very cold and wet! Still, there was plenty to smile about :)

I spent a little over a week at my house on Cape Cod. Although I worked, I was able to get out and do things, such as Kayak and walk in the woods. One thing stands out though – I was there with only the new kitten, Alexander.

It was great having a week to bond with Alexander! He stayed close to me most of the time and slept on top of me every night. He was a great companion!

So that is my smile, a week on Cape Cod with the kitten, Alexander :)

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

Alexander is Great (pun intended ;) ). I do love kayaking and it was wonderful to be able to get out on the water a few times last week.
I often see your posts before you have a chance to make it over here – I think you always do leave a link, but do like to put it there, just in case… :)

He’s super cute :) He really loved the house on the Cape, but a lot of it was being only mammal. He has been in a few tiffs with our old cat, Grace, and I don’t think he is going upstairs at all now. And downstairs is the domain of the dogs. He gets along better with he dogs than with Grace, but he is still confining himself to just a small area. Hopefully as he warms up to the dogs he will start expanding his territory within the house again.

We had a cat Ishy that spent most of her life in our room scared to come out and explore finally her last few years of life she decided to come out and run about.

Alexander did explore the entire house his first few days here, so I am hoping he doesn’t follow Ishy’s path! My guess is he won’t, but getting him and Grace to have an uneasy truce might be a little difficult at this time….

Maybe feed them some canned food together to ease them into each other. Most cats love canned food and will even share eating together to get it. Mr. Bird ever morning at 6:30 starts meowing for some canned food the rest of time they get dried food lol. We call him the 6:30 cat.

I might try it again, but the first time I heard the deep growls and the loud hisses was when I attempted to give them both canned food at the same time. It went downhill from there… We’ll see if it calms down in a few days.

To cute he just has to get use to her being the boss. Our cats a male and female that are both fixed love to cuddle, clean each other etc. At times they will get into a spat for no known reason. They are good though then they are snuggling again.

I’m hoping they will warm up to each other. In the mean time, my wife is getting another cat (year old, so almost kitten). We’ll see if this causes pure chaos!

Alexander is very cute and it was great to be able to spend some time alone with him, with no dogs demanding my attention, as they usually do. I’ll be by in a few minutes :)

Thanks, I did. Alexander is a great, and cute, little guy. I talk about the dogs, because they have such a way of inserting themselves into your life, but I’ve always been a cat person.

Dogs are needier and harder to take care of, but on the other hand, the bonds with them are closer to bonds with other humans than it is with cats. You don’t really see it when you watch other people with dogs, but you really get it with your own.
