talon to talon
dance with feather and the wind
who will own the sky
where winged angels are not safe
hawks compete for patch of blue

This was written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This is the first Tuesday of the month, so it was a poet’s choice week. I chose to write a tanka based on this photo I took two years ago.
Nice poem, cool photo

Trent, you take the best bird photos! Were they fighting over prey? Well done on your tanka too!

Thanks, Colleen! These two were hunting, do large circles, and every so often the circles would get too close and one would chase the other away. I have about 50 shots of the two of them including three different little battles (I was in a kayak).

Fabulous, Trent. I love the rhythm of the poem as well as how it augmented the picture rather than describing the picture.

wow perfect poetry for a amazing photo. It’s amazing how much bigger they look when they defend their territory.

I’ve seen a few large birds “fight” – it is always pretty cool, and, yeah, these birds are big. Thanks!

I’ve seen a few clash of feathered titans (watchign eagles fight is amazing), but this is the only time I’ve seen them face-to-face! Thanks.

Thanks, Dale. This is one of my favorite shots – I have a few others that are similar of big birds “fighting”, but none that are face to face like this.
