The Weekly Smile for the 2nd of August, 2021 #weeklysmile

Hi! This week might seem like a weird one (as if last week wasn’t ;) ), but it was a huge smile.

About two and half years ago I bought a house on Cape Cod. There is a strong possibility that in the future I may live there full time. For now it is more of a get-away, but a fully functional house where I can live and work on my get-away.

One thing with the house is that there was a lot of work to be done. I have done some of the electrical (I have a lot to go!), a little plumbing, I had the house painted, a new roof on the barn, the barn sided, etc. There is still a long way to go… One thing is appliances. Not only are the existing appliance old, but some did not exist at all.

In the “non-existent” category were washer and dryer. First we had to chose a place, which wasn’t as easy as it might sound. When the electrician was in to do initial work, I had him put in the big dryer plug along with a new 20 amp circuit for the washer. The plumber did the water hookups and the drain when he was in to replace the (broken) hot water heater. Great! So just one thing left to do…

Last year we had bad experience with the appliance store we were working with, so we decided to try someplace else this year.

Long story short, the new washer and dryer was delivered on Friday! They are small, efficiency units because that is all that would fit through our tiny doors. But they work great! I did a few loads, and they fit the size I normally work with.

So there will be no more transporting laundry back and forth between New Hampshire and Cape Cod!

That was my smile for the week, having a new washer and dryer delivered.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).   Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile.  (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

For some things it is a little difficult to maintain the two houses, but the laundry situation made it that much worse – The benefits of the two is being able go between them without thinking or worrying about anything.

They are those things I have always taken for granted (yes, I did live in apartments and dorms when young, but still easy) so I really missed not having them! After putting them in place, even with the tight fit and smaller units, it is perfect.
Hope you have a great weekend!

We have a tiny washer I roll up to the kitchen sink, and an equally tiny dryer. Saves trips to the laundromat, except for the “big stuff” or I don’t do the laundry for several days, lol. Strange, isn’t it, how appliances make it seem like a home! Lugging laundry is never fun! But our house is too small for other modern conveniences like a microwave, convection oven, air fryer, instapot, expresso maker . . . but at least I can do the laundry. Thanks for the smile.

Doing laundry in the house does make it more home-like, though I think so does being able to make dinner – I do hope you have a stove top and perhaps a small oven! Just a FYI – we do not have a working oven in this house, but the stove top works. We also have a little outdoor stove we’ve used and we use the grill, so…. not having a microwave, though, would be tough.

Yes, making supper makes it seem more like home, too. We do have a gas oven (but no broiler), and a stove top. We have a toaster, which needs replacing. We had access to a bbq, but that cooking surface was destroyed last month when a tree limb the size of a tree smashed down on our house and yard. I cooked outside all seasons of the year.
