“I think I am all cultured out.”
“Really?”
I had that figured out when we set foot on the Air France flight to go on “the vacation of a lifetime”.
The Louvre was boring.
I heard the phrase “Awful Tower” far too many times.
Grand chateaux were as exciting our neighbor’s house.
Sitting in a historic medieval village, sipping coffee, and he finally realizes he is not having the time of his life?
But then his face lit up. I followed his gaze.
It took me two minutes to add working farms to our itinerary.
I’d save our trip yet.

Art in real life. :)

Sometimes real life is the best art…

For me, the ideal would be a historical re-enactment place where folks live and work as in past centuries. Leave me there for a day. After the Louvre, of course. (smile)

Yeah, those reenactment sites are always fun, and it would be cool to see one from something like the 12th century. But I am with you – the Louvre first ;)

Yes, the European version. I have seen shows which include Viking re-enactments. Think maybe there are probably Celtic versions as well. I know there is a place in France where a medieval castle is being rebuilt using the technology available at the time.

My husband is not a farmer, but he’d much rather watch a tractor at work than see a splendid castle. Different strokes, I guess :)

The world would be a boring place if everyone liked the same thing ;) I’ll admit that I’m a little surprised at how many people related to this story, but, then, I guess people like this aren’t all that uncommon.

Sometimes the journey IS better than the destination, as well as the dream being better than the reality of it. Hope you’re having a good week and haven’t suffered too greatly from IDA or HENRI.

We always fit in farm visits somewhere on the itinerary – husband is a farm advisor, and a farm boy at heart. Nice.

That’s great. I think it is very important to interact with the locals when traveling, so it makes sense to visit farms if that is what you (or your husband) is interested in.

Dear Trent,
Different strokes for different folks. ;) He just warn’t the museum type. Good one.

Yep, different strokes. Glad they could find a compromise. Thanks, Rochelle.

That’s sort of what people thought when my son and I visited beer breweries when we went to Australia. Why not save that for home and use the time for something we can’t do at home?

lol, I’ll go on those brewery tours… I know people who have visited Scotland to do nothing else but golf, while others I know have gone to Scotland to do nothing else but visit distilleries… I vote for the distilleries.

Well told Trent, farm machinery often fascinates me

I think machinery in general fascinates a lot of people, as does seeing how the locals use it. Thanks.

There are only so many museums anyone can enjoy. Immersion in the present is so much more fun!

I’m all for immersion, even learning local swear words ;) but I still want to spend a lot of time in museums. It good that the couple in this story can now do both.

It worked out well in the end, what a relief! Nice one Trent.

Sometimes the tourist attractions and history museums are not the only way to appreciate the present culture of a place. Well told.

Seeing how peopel live is often much more valuable than all of the “cultural” stuff, and if you have a particular interest… Thanks.

The best kind of traveling companion to have is the 2nd one, not the first one. Good story, Trent.

Fun trippin. I’d take the farm trip any day, lol. As well as all the other sites of course.

lol, I’m sure you would enjoy the farm visits See how they do it in other parts of the world… Though I’m sure you’d also enjoy the museums, historic sights, etc.

Lovely twist/inspiration from the prompt! Have to say, sometimes the realities, the practicalities of everyday life are far richer and rewarding, offer more, than “high culture” – but then, I know I certainly wouldn’t be able to pass up The Louvre. ;)

I’m more of one to visit the museums and historic sites, but they aren’t for everyone. Sometimes seeing how other people do what you know can be pretty interesting. Thanks :)

Haha one of our grandparents went on holiday to Canada, and despite all the amazing places they visited and the gorgeous scenery, the highlight of the trip was a small agricultural museum which had a certain tractor he had once used on the farm. 🙈. Great post. KL ❤️

lol, yes there are people like the one character in this story. That is funny, but there are reasons for those agriculture museums… Thanks!
