This last week has been an odd week. I had a hair cut after letting it grow out for 6 months. I’ve had that as a smile before, but since I didn’t do before and after photos… We had a face-to-face Lions Club meeting, which was great but… I have really gotten back into my music, which is great, but there is little to show for it (yet). I just did a “it’s the small things” post. How about a nice, long walk in the woods without the dogs?
Typically around this time of year I would be doing major hikes, but I haven’t had a good day for it in a long time – there has to be a combination of the right weather and a big blank on my agenda. But I did get out for a long walk, which I stretched out into the local woods. It wasn’t too special and the colors are not here yet, but it was nice, and perhaps the longest walk I’ve had in New Hampshire since early spring, so it was nice. The weather wasn’t great (it had started to drizzle), but I still enjoyed it.
I enjoy getting out into nature and the autumn is by far my favorite time of year to be out. I haven’t had many real fall adventures yet. Again, looking for the right combination of weather and schedule. But even when the weather doesn’t cooperate, it is still great to breath in the nice fresh air and just walk.
So that is my smile for the week, making the most of mot so nice weather and enjoying nature.
What made you smile?
(Note – There will not be a Smile Recap post next week).
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Next week I will compile all of the Smiles and do a separate post of them on Monday morning just before the smile. (I will shoot for around 7 AM EST).

I hope the weather gets better for you and your schedule opens up so you can get some good hiking in eventually. I hear you on the hair cutting too as I should really go in and have someone really cut my hair instead of doing it myself. I just hate spending the money and since I can wear it up in a pony tail, I let it be. Here is my smile post this week! Have a great rest of this week!

The weather was much better today, after a couple of days of pouring rain… and I had to spend the entire day inside. lol. Oh well, hopefully I’ll be able to get out and run or something tomorrow after work. Hope your week is going well :)

I hear you on the weather, or on the lack of the weather’s cooperation. It’s been raining on and off here in Singapore, and it does get in the way of our planned runs. I used to love running in the rain, but with slick pavements and the risk of a bad tumble, I stay away from wet runs now.
I know how you feel about enjoying the time spent on things you love, but not having “anything to show”. Just low-key pleasures to delight in.

Beautiful weather finally showed back up today, and I couldn’t enjoy it – hopefully I’ll get my run in tomorrow! Hope you are having a great week and that your weather improves as well.

Ah! the tussle continues, to get that run in!!!!
We’ve been enjoying rain-less weather, but unfortunately, I’ve done something to my left calf muscle and so have to rest it for a bit. No runs this weekend.

I’m sorry you hurt yourself and can’t run this weekend. I did get a good mountain run in on Thursday and will do a beach run tomorrow (I did a long walk yesterday and a long kayak paddle today). Despite no running, I hope you have a great weekend!

Clear your agenda so you can take one of these long hikes:)
Sewed heavy (fabric) curtains today, and that is my smile, so my daughter sleeps well at night (there is a lantern on all night long in front of our bedroom) windows)https://livingbetweentworealms.wordpress.com/2021/10/03/thirst

It seems that the older I am, the harder it is to clear my agenda… lol – Reason number #34 to retire early ;) I’ll be by in a few minutes to see your smile :)

I’ve had trouble getting conditions to align for a good hike, too! Hope we both get one in soon! Have a great week!

Another problem is that the best local hikes are popular and trail head parking is usually full from 11 am to 3 pm, so I if I am not out of the door by 10, I sometimes don’t bother… lol, yeah, that is just me. Thanks! Hope you have a wonderful week as well.

I agree with Trent. Autumn and nature are a wonderful, spiritually reviving combination.

It is funny that when things are “dying”. for us humans it is very reviving! It is a great time of year to be out enjoying nature.

Had to think hard on this – a weird week – my head + heart + brain in a “no fly zone” – but there were a few things:

Fresh air and trees – silence lapping the rocks and feet – this is grounding and good. Making the most of what is, even if not “ideal” – well, sometimes it’s the best thing anyhow. Rain can be a tonic – maybe not gin 😅 – but a libation is still something worthy of a smile. Glad you’ve slipped into the music – and remember, patience and self-generosity go along way – after all, it’s a process.
Hope you have a most wonderful week, filled with the small slices that bring you joy 😊

Being outside can be intoxicating, even without that gin ;) I’m learning some new music right now, but a big part of it is learning patience. So often I get to a certain point and say “good enough”, even if deep down I know it isn’t. This time I am trying to get as close to “perfect” as I can. It is amazing how much progress I make even day to day.
Have a fabulous week :)
