Hi all, sorry I’m a day late. It has been insane busy lately and yesterday was nonstop from the time I got up. Anyway, here I am, a day late and possibly a dollar short, but I guess better late than never ;)
We had a stretch of really warm weather last week. It’s seasonably cool now, but we have some more warm weather coming up. Unfortunately I was very busy last week and didn’t get out as much as I would have wished, but I did some, particularly over the weekend, and it was great!
Besides the typical runs, walks and dog walks, including a very long one through the woods with Fiyero, I want to bring a few things forward.
On Saturday our town’s “Community Center” (quotes because there is no physical center yet), had a street clean up. Our Lions Club met at a park just out of town and did a few roads around it. I was a little late, but I walked around the soccer fields and such, collecting trash, though it was pretty clean. After we were finished we stood around and talked. An eagle flew over.
As I was raking leaves, some neighbors came over and chatted. I do see them a bit, but rarely chat for long. I also had a very long chat with different friends and neighbors throughout town on several other occasions. Everyone was out enjoying the weather, and so much more social than usual. On top of that, my wife invited one of her best friends out for dinner, someone I haven’t seen in ages, so that was nice to catch up.
My smile this week was enjoying the warm weather and the seemingly higher level of socialization than usual mostly because of that weather.
What made you smile?
(A reminder – There will not be a Smile Recap post next week).
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the Smiles into a Recap post. I’ll try to get the new smile out between 7 and 8:30 Eastern Time.

Thanks. No, we can’t take outings with friends for granted these days, though in our small town, even at the worst, we still did occasionally talk outside, just kept a safe distance and such. Hope you have a great weekend!

Out and about – with socializing that seems a bit more easy, as if people can cautiously come out of their shells. Sometimes, especially after so long in this pandemic state of being, it’s a bit nerve-wracking, but being able to participate in things, like litter/garbage collections, or just slipping into the comfort of good weather, helps us remember what it means to connect – on a simpler level, a level that is perhaps, more intimate. Face-to-face – smiles that extend beyond the eyes …. seems like a really positive thing.
Glad that this happened for you – and here’s hoping you have a really great week. :)

It is nice to be out and about, and I think everyone feels it. Our Lions had a couple of indoor activities, but as numbers started to rise again dropped them all, so it was good that there was something outdoors we could do together, and such a beautiful weekend – it just drew everyone out.
Thanks – hope you are having a wonderful week :)

Awesome being able to have a yarn with the locals. The eagle must have been a little surprised at seeing so many people thought you might have had something yummy. It’s nice there wasn’t too much rubbish to clean up.

if the eagle showed back up about 4 hours later, it may have been even more surprised at the crowds – I’d never seen so many people up in the little park! There are 4 soccer fields jammed together and all of them must have had games going at once… It was nice that I found so little trash :) And nice to spend some time with friends, neighbors and such.

How nice to be out and about and chit-chatting with neighbors! Love this!! And the community coming together too, the Lions club sounds great! I’ve been super busy socializing too but it’s been with my family in AZ. Then when I returned my sister from Idaho came to visit with her hubby. It was his 40th HS reunion. My sister and I had fun riding my horses together. Super busy FUN weeks! 🤩😁

Between being out in the beautiful weather and all of that chit-chatting, it was a great week and weekend. Cool that you got to visit with family. I think next year is my 40th, but I’m also pretty sure they are setting a date I can’t attend… I hope you have a wonderful week, and if it is busy, may it be a good busy :)

The weather was definitely worth smiling about here in Michigan too. Today it’s sunny but chilly, but they say it’s going to warm up some next week. Sunny and chilly is fine with me.

After our week in the upper 70s we did have a couple of cool days, but today is back to the 70s! I don’t mind those kind of chilly, sunny October days, but I want turn down the bit of mid-September we’ve had in mid-October…

Our community seems to be experiencing a rebirth of “community” as well Trent. It is kind of exciting.

We have maintained a pretty good sense of community through these last couple of years, which is great. I think this last week was just everyone needing to be out and about in what may be some of our last good weather for the year.

Our own town has been very segregated through the time of my life and only now seems to be coming together a bit. It is a breath of fresh air.

Glad it has been getting better there. All small towns have their ups and downs and “family squabbles” (i.e., small town politics), but for the most part we’ve been pretty good here.

I am glad to hear that and doubly glad that the gift seems to be spreading at the moment.
