Hi all! As I write this, I have a little black kitten climbing all over my computer, “helping”. Various keys are pressed, sometimes hundreds of times, and I have to fix things. Hmmm. And it all makes me smile. Why? I’ll tell you!
When we picked up Tiberius (they called him “James” which we changed to James T. Kirk, but use Tiberius, and boy does it fit!) we were told an upper respiratory infection was going through the shelter, but he hadn’t shown any signs. So we took him down to Cape Cod and he got sick. Very sick. Nobody down here wanted to touch him, but our vet in New Hampshire (NH) put in a prescription for a child’s antibiotic and we did a lot of home-remedy things. He got better! He started playing and acting like a kitten.
But he never totally lost the wheeze.
And he got worse after a few weeks.
We later took him to our NH vet and they gave him some meds, which cleared a lot up. He played again.
But there was still that wheeze.
A few weeks later (a week and a half ago), and he lost his energy and his head tilted.
Another emergency visit to the vets… They took him immediately! (in the Covid world, seeing a vet is next to impossible). He had a 105 F fever.
A whole boat load of meds and another visit scheduled.
Things slowly cleared up. One day I noticed he didn’t cough or wheeze at all. Energy returned. The vet noticed a few things on his next visit (last Wednesday), but he was much improved. he still has to do ear drops for a few days and antibiotics now down to every third day, but much better.
And now he is go 24 x 7. There is no slowing down and he terrorizes the entire populace. Well, Alexander does play with him some, but it gets old for him. It is like Tiberius is making up for lost time and plays more than any kitten I’ve seen.
So that is my smile, over the last week Tiberius has greatly improved and is now 100% playful kitten with no coughing, wheezing, etc. Just playing.

What made you smile?
(A reminder – There will not be a Smile Recap post next week).
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the Smiles into a Recap post. I’ll try to get the new smile out between 7 and 8:30 Eastern Time.
Wow – that is a stubborn infection and hope this time it is all cleared up!
And fun to imagine Tiberius helping type the post

He is still 100% energy and no wheezing or anything, so it looks like it is over at last! Yes, Tiberius has been a lot of help with my typing… Actually, back in NH it isn’t as bad, but because of how my layout is on the Cape, well, he liked to sit on the laptop – when it is open!

Awww! So glad he’s much improved. It sounds like bombarding him with medications will finally do the trick! My daughter’s kitten is also much better after seeing the emergency vet and getting on antibiotics. Now she (her name is Everett) is running all over, climbing, jumping up on the table and no food or beverage is safe from her!

lol, Everett sounds just like Tiberius! Cool that both kittens are well enough to cause that much mischief :)

The vets on the Cape were all pains and we would have lost poor Tiberius that first week if it wasn’t for the one in Milford, NH sending him help, sight unseen. I can’t say enough about how wonderful they have been to Tiberius, though they say they feel lucky to have such a cute and good kitten to take care of ;)
Thanks! It is such a relief that he seems to have totally kicked it at last.

He is super adorable :) To say I’ve been worried about him would be the understatement of the century. So good for him to have finally kicked it! Thanks Resa!

And hoping he doesn’t have to go back to visit Bones any time soon… lol. – I think the dogs like that name for the vet more than James T….

Huge giant SMILE!! YAY!! I was praying Tiberius would kick this thing out the front door! I’m so happy your vet was able to give him the meds he needed and what a stubborn bug. He’s so handsome!! Love his markings! 💙

He is the cutest little guy. I guess the vet and all of the techs dote over him whenever he is brought in. It is such a relief that he seems to have finally beat it!

Glad to hear his fighting spirit has seen him through this course – and he’s clearly well enough on his paws! (And thank the stars for a vet who is invested and willing to take the chance of helping, even as the odds are stacked, even from a distance, working semi-blind to boot!)

Yeah, the vet was great, always taking that extra step. It is great seeing the little guy acting how he should without any issues :)

such great news :) cheers all around! (except for the other 4-leggeds who might get a bit bothered/tired out by his shenanigans! LOL – never a dull moment, I’m sure. ;) )
