It Flows Downhill…

He’s the only one who gave us good information during the chaos.

Don’t matter one iota.

He did a lot of public projects that helped millions.

Means nada.

He…

So, you are excusing his behavior? Justifying it?

Of course not.  I’m saying that the good work still exists even if performed by a monster.  Think of Wagner’s music and…

…and it is still the music of a monster, just as all of his “public projects” are just that, so much “public defecation”.  He’s a politician…

But what about your guy?

He’s a businessman, not a politician.

Now there’s your manure…

(Trent, stay out of politics!!!!) There is a big name (which will remain nameless ;) ) that is once again in the news. Yesterday someone I know said something along the lines of how good they thought some of the things he did back when he did them, but now that they know what type of a man he is, it is obvious that those works are actually awful. This person isn’t a fan of the businessman, but I have heard people use that argument…. Anyway, fiction, fiction, fiction, not my opinion!! ;)

It is a complicated subject. Now that he is discredited, can you enjoy a Kevin Spacey movie? Did the movie change, or just your perception? This was also about politicians – are the good works of a politician still good when you find that he is a bad man in his private life?

You did a good job of walking the line, Trent. I’d like to know what the assessment of it all will be in 100 years. Too close to the toxicity of it all right now. I would like to say what I think he’ll be looked at as in 100 years but that would be politics ;)

Thanks. I do sometimes wonder how history will portray certain people and events. For the most part, even history is tainted by politics, but hopefully a lot of contemporary figures will be seen in a more fact-based light….

Nice dialogue, Trent. I particularly like the way one character talks over the other. You handle that nicely. Also I like the reference to Wagner. His anti-semitism is deplorable, but his music is wonderful.

Thanks. I think Wagner is the ultimate example of the contrast between a person and their art. Few composers had such a direct and lasting influence on music, and yet few composers were as awful as human beings…

Besides remaining nameless, I made sure to not give a clue as to what he did that was so bad, so… not sure if it is a timeless story, but it does not have to be about current events. Opinions are pretty circular and how you feel about a person and their mistakes more often depends on the party affiliation than the actual facts on the ground….

No comments on the merits of any case are given on this blog… lol, yeah, I am not going to name names on this one! I actually don’t know all of the ins and outs of it, but I do think it is odd how with some people all of the good is flushed at any accusation, while others can do anything and everything and still come out on top….
