Hi all! It was a strange week last week. Well, maybe not: it is winter in New Hampshire, so cold! I have several major projects at work, so busy! Anyway, in some ways a lot going on, in others not much at all. But one thing I did when stuck inside was play music. When I say “play”, I mean on a keyboard with my fingers.
I wrote and recorded two songs last week. One was a simple, and somewhat silly, blues. The other was, well, I’m not sure, perhaps a prog-pop instrumental? You can read about it and listen here and tell me what you think it is. Even without a genre, I like it :)
I do enjoy playing, writing and recording music, so that I was able to make two recordings in one week made for a very good week.
So that is my smile this week, getting a chance to make some music.
What made you smile?
(A reminder – There will not be a Smile Recap post next week).
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the Smiles into a Recap post. I’ll try to get the new smile out between 7 and 8:30 Eastern Time.

You are one heck of a creative soul, Trent. Bless.

Thanks Natasha. yes, that is my voice on the blues. I attempt to sing occasionally ;) I don’t really like my voice much, but have been trying to use it more on my recordings. I’ll be by to visit soon.

Sounds you compose and do music more in winter. You will be laughing what I call cold – 50ties. Am also more aware of the weather outside because our wood stove spread a lot of heat, much more than central heat. My weekly smile is definitely the metal cross. First on the door of the barn in California, now hangng by the front door.

I think I do, since I’m inside a lot more. But then, we’ll see…Although I have always played some, I haven’t been writing/recording for quite a few years, so it is more that I do a lot more “composing” in late 2021/early 2022 than I have in a few years than winter ;) As to composing, the reason I put it in quotes earlier is that I used to do some pretty hefty “classical” (modern concert music from solo to large orchestra) composition but really haven’t done anything in a decade. It take me months to recover even a small degree of that….
Yeah, 50s sounds warm! lol On the other hand, I live in the north for a reason and love wool sweaters while I hate, hate the heat.
I don’t see a link, but I’ll try to track it down in a few minutes.

Ahhhh, nice! My smile this week were the eagles. And my birds. And of course my Katie-girl. And fresh snow. And homemade chicken soup. There. I think that’s it. Oh…and the electric blanket at night.

Seeing eagles is always a huge smile! If Katie is like our dogs, her and fresh snow combined is a huge smile! Have a great week :)

Hi Trent, listening to music always makes me smile. But, the ability to actually make music must be very rewarding. No wonder you are smiling x’s 2 this week. We just got back from a short trip to South Carolina and there was lots to smile about there – cooler weather, bike riding, s’mores roasting, sipping wine by the fire – all good stuff. Have a great week.

It sounds so funny saying “cooler weather” about South Carolina – it was so bitter cold here that I’m sure SC would feel truly tropical! It sounds like you had a good time.
Just playing is always fun, and writing/recording is very rewarding. I really enjoy the whole process and it feels great to see/hear the results. Have a great week!
