Back in July of 2017 I posted a cover of The House of the Rising Sun on Youtube. My vocals were awful, so I redid it as an instrumental and posted that. This second video did OK (for me) but soon drop off the radar as most of my videos do.
Last year I started to see some views on this video. Not a lot, but they trickled in. And then I started see at least one a day, and sometimes four or five. And then I started seeing four or five, and occasional a dozen! By the end of 2021 I was averaging about 10 views a day of this video. I received more views of this the last 90 days of 2021 than all other videos combined.
But the numbers kept growing!
In the last 48 hours I have had almost 120 views of this video.
To put that in perspective, the last three videos that I posted, Never Turn Your Back on Mother Nature, The Great Blue’s Blues and For Her Heartbreak, have received fewer views than that combined. Total. So those three videos combined have received fewer views in the last 24 days (when the first was posted) than The House of the Rising Sun received in the last 48 hours!
To me this is just odd. Why is this four year old video getting so many views? A few other videos have benefited, but right now the vast majority of views is this one video.
This version of The House of the Rising Sun is an instrumental using my modular synthesizer. I wrote about it here.
Anyway, if you are curious, and to get even more views ;), here is the viral (to me) video in question:

I like the music and can se why it is popular – and I do wonder about ow songs get promoted or shared- (like does it make it to the “Next Up” list and then you have more listeners??
but it sounds like many folks are enjoying this song

Thanks, Y. not sure how it works. The analytics gives a little info – some come from searches, and some from the next-up/recommended songs, but it’s not all of them. And it is so odd how the numbers have grown. I’ll just watch and see if the numbers sink back to nothing again…

When I think of that song, it’s the lyrics I hear in my head, not the music, which makes your version that much more impressive because I can’t imagine the lyrics taking center stage over your instrumentals!

Thanks, Shannon. In ways the point of the song is the lyrics, but I hear sounds before words, so that is how I translated it. And I think the countermelody helps!

Otherworldly and utterly touching – not an easy tusk. Very well done!
