The Weekly Smile for the 7th of March, 2022 #weeklysmile

Hi! Yeah, another week full of dark news. Again, this is a smile post, so I say we need to stop for a moment, turn off whatever screen you are looking at, look out of the window and find some beauty someplace in the world, be it the smile of a child, a bird in flight or a comedian’s joke. OK, ready? Breath in, breath out. There…

So, I have a small chuckle before my main smile. If you read my coffee share, sorry if I am repeating myself :) So, the other day I got my passport back. I had the photo for it taken a week before I had a haircut, it was cold, so I wore a hat to the store where the photo was taken and they told me that if I smiled they would have to retake the photo. Sounds great, right? So on the passport there is a small black and white version, and the first thing I thought was “Wanted, Dead or Alive!” Yep, I thought I looked like a Wild West Desperado! I took a photo of the original photo (funny, right?) and tried to make it look like the PP photo, but the PP photo is worse…

OK, so it is still winter in New Hampshire. Last week it got down to 4 F/-15 C. I woke up to new snow (over the old) a few days last week. But on Sunday (yesterday) it was sunny and got up to almost 65 F/18 C. Quite the difference!

I spent a lot of time outside yesterday. I played with the dogs, walked the dogs, did some chores and went running. I must have been out at least 3 hours, maybe more. Yes, there was snow on the ground and where there was no snow it was a muddy surface that often had ice under it (this is called “Mud Season” in New England for a reason!). But it was nice. I did see a few bugs, but not many. There is also some green, which is nice. I won’t see flowers for a couple of weeks, but many buds.

In many ways yesterday was a warm late winter day, yet I could feel spring in the air. The day was longer – I can tell the equinox is just around the corner. The angle of the sun makes the quality of the light more spring-like. It just didn’t feel like winter. Not just that, although we have had a few warm days over the last three weeks, I have not been able to get out to enjoy them the way I was able to get out yesterday.

So those are my smiles for the week, my “desperado” passport photo and enjoying a warm, spring-like day.

What made you smile?

(A reminder – There will not be a Smile Recap post next week).

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).  Note – I am no longer compiling the Smiles into a Recap post. I’ll try to get the new smile out between 7 and 8:30 Eastern Time.

I am so glad that we have Smiles/Small Pleasures/Happy Place posts each week – otherwise I am pretty sure I would be bereft and overcome with despair! or perhaps just decide not to blog altogether!

Passport photos are a bane to most of us – yours is so atmospheric! And I am pretty sure you are very photogenic because it is far from a typical terrible PP mugshot!

Atmospheric, and different from the typical it is, photogenic, I am not so sure ;) lol
I really like doing the smile, though fewer people join in since I stopped doing the recap. Occasionally I wonder if it is worth it, but then I’ll get comments like yours and remember why I do it :)

Visiting your space each week is one of my highlights, Trent. You may joke about “another post about little things”, but it’s these smiles over little things that add up and help make the week brighter, and hopefully that translates to making a difference in someone else’s day.

Thanks, Ju-Lyn :) The little things are what make up our lives, and to ignore them is to ignore our lives. I hope I did make somebody’s day a little brighter :)

I think there have been jokes about how awful passport photos are since passports have had photos… lol. Driver’s license photos are also notoriously bad, but I think for that it is they think people will obey the laws more since they don’t want anybody to see the terrible photos ;)

Every morning I sit at our kitchen table & I am forced to look out the window as the bird life is just wonderfully nuts first thing in the morning. It is soul satisfying being outdoors isn’t it. L:ike you guy’s we are in mud at the moment due to all the rain & I burnt dinner last night I got carried away pulling weeds out of the paddock whilst my horse Zina purred having me keep her company. too sweet. Passport photo would make for a very dramatic album cover. Have a great week, sorry for my verbosity. lol

LOL@ Mud Season — oh yeah, we have one of those too in these hills! Still far off though – at the moment, due to the wild west weather ‘trick’ n’ pony’ show – it’s ice season – the warmer temps brought the mixed bag and rain, so now, everything is dangerously slick – we could conceivable don skates and play hockey on our road. As I type? Someone’s shaking the snow globe! LOL – at least this should stick a bit to the ice – help with some traction. Despite all this – yes, Spring is coming …. as you’ve mentioned, the quality and angle of Light is good … much better …. so yay and smiles for that! And hey, no bug season here for a while, so I’ll applaud that too. And hey, didn’t I see your picture at the post office?!?? 😂😂😂 … Actually, it’s not all that bad, but you’re quite right, more often than not, these images are not flattering…. so I guess we just put up with them and shrug. At least they’re not used too often, so that’s something.

Hope you have a wonderful week and find all kinds of smiles tucked up all over the place. :D

It didn’t freeze last night, but it will freeze at night for at least another week or two, so more ice in the future.. It is raining now, so more mud over the ice…
Hope we all see some spring soon, though I won’t really expect it until April… OK, May, just to be safe

LOL@ May …. yup, we sure know the patience is a virtue game when it comes to Spring’s arrival, but that’s life …. so, we adapt and roll with it …. if anything, it’s kind of at the point where I’m only going to shovel, when absolutely necessary …. and only the areas where it’s required …. I’ve noticed the past week + that slowly, the snow is shrinking down, so we’re on our way!

I’m trying to give poor Mother Nature a break and say that it is “yo-yo weather” instead of that she has bipolar disorder, but you may be right… lol As you saw, we had a 60 degree swing in two days! And it wasn’t the first… Hope you see spring soon :)
