Hi All. So, it seems to actually be Spring now. I see daffodils and such. And we even had a few warmish days. Yeah, a little cooler than usual, but… Of course being spring means that I have to start doing spring things.
Like kayaking.
On Saturday I was out on the kayak for the first time this year. I was able to make it out on the water a little earlier last year, and when I lived on Swan Pond I would occasionally kayak all year(!!). But Saturday was the first day this year that I had time, it was warm enough and the wind calm enough.
It was very nice to be out. It was a little cool, but the sun felt nice and I do a lot of work. Surprisingly, the water wasn’t really as cold as expected. I did hit some windy places, even to the point where waves were crashing over the boat and I was getting wet.
I did do a bit of a distance, but mostly stayed in the local vicinity – there are a few large coves close by that I circumnavigated instead of just going up Bass River.
I saw quite a few osprey and some jellyfish, but not a lot of other wildlife. The water was super clear, which it always is when there are few boats – it gets dark and muddy in the summer, but I have heard that is 100% due to human activity.
Over all it was a great paddle.
That is my smile for the week, the first time out on the kayak this year.
What made you smile?
(A reminder – There will not be a Smile Recap post next week).
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

ooooooo chilly but sunny … sounds like you had the waters all to yourself. It must have been such a meditative paddle!

It was very nice – always great to be on the water by myself, surrounded by nature :)

Your kayaking makes me smile too because it snowed here today. Your nice weather gives me hope that mine will come. Thanks for the smile.

Yuck. I have family in Ohio and they had snow over the weekend as well. It’s Spring, damn it, act like it! lol. This week is turning out to be relatively warm here. Hope the warm weather heads your way soon!

It is minus 20 with the wind chill here this morning. So, I agree with you about the weather needing to act like Spring. Haha, hopefully soon. Have a great rest of your week Trent.

Yikes, not good for April! I forget, are you BC? I’m pretty sure it is the Canadian west, but I don’t remember. My brother was just skiing in BC (Whistler) two weeks ago, so maybe that is why it is on my brain… Hope you have a great, and warmer, week.

You must have kayak-ed for ,many years you do not seem to be disturbed or nervous by crashing waves over the kayak! Have a great Spring week.
My fave color is blue, so to see a building with blue awnings and parasols brings a smile to my face:)

I’ve kayaked most of my life, so… Truthfully, the waves splashing over the kayak sounds a lot scarier than it really is. The waves are small, but wind-whipped, so they cause a pretty big splash when I hit them.
Thanks, I hope you have a great week as well :)

Good to hear that Spring is making an effort in your part of the world, it is here too, tentertively . One step forward two back she waltzes making us take our coats off then put them on again! … Fingers crossed we keep encouraging her . Be safe and well 💜💜

It has been a bit of a waltz here as well, and it snowed yesterday where my parents live. Looking at the forecast, I think spring has arrived here. Hope it has there as well!
