Odds and Ends for the Week

Just a few random things I wanted to put out.

Did you see the cover reveal for my upcoming book of short stories, It’s Cold Outside? Take a look here if you haven’t.

Why am I bringing it up?

I had started with a drawing I had made in an art class that I thought was perfect, but I couldn’t get it to work, so I started over with a different image, a drawing I had made from a photo, one I have used many times on the blog. I really liked how it come out :) But then, the day before my cover reveal, I went back tot he original drawing of the first image and played with it. Darn, I actually liked what I came up with! After passing it by several people, we all decided that I need to stick with what I used. It fits better. Anyway, a few changes in format, here is the alternate version:

I do like this, but it didn’t fit as well. Real quick – this was originally a pencil drawing (you may have seen it since I have used the drawing many times). I colored it on the computer and tried to get a watercolor affect.

Anyway, I have been stuck in a rut in music, so I decided it would be a good time to post an ancient piece of music on YouTube. I did this several decades ago when I was into the Minimalists, like Phillip Glass and Steve Reich. I played it for my brother and he suggested the percussion at the beginning and end. He also gave it the title, Mohr’s Circle. This is used to calculate stresses of materials, which seemed to fit.

I have a few projects that are coming up. I am still editing the book of short stories and have a few ideas for other stories in mind that I might write out. I may illustrate a book for a family member (maybe…) I am working on some music. Etc., etc.

Oh, the photo at the top? Yeah, my passport photo… lol, I think I look like I belong on a Wild West “Wanted” poster!

Anyway, as I said, just a few odds and ends I wanted to post. Have a great weekend!

I love the beat! And my 2 cents, for what it’s worth, is I love the cover art you’re going with. Both sketches are excellent, but you really get an otherworldly, sci-fi feel from the one you’re using, something about the coloring emotes more and makes me wonder more about the character.

Thanks, Shannon, glad you liked the music. Yes, I think the one I’m using fits the book so much better, but for a minute, when I first did the mock up with the new drawing, I had second thoughts for a few minutes…

      Thanks, Robbie!
The photo itself doesn’t look terrible, but when I saw the black and white version inside of the passport, I had to laugh – the first thing I thought of was an old “Wanted” poster. You are right, I’ve seen much worse!

You are so very talented!! Love your odds and ends post. I agree with the book cover the drawing you decided to use does fit better. I think it’s the shorter hair and exciting your short stories are mostly science fiction based. šŸ˜€ Love your music, catchy beat and melody. Your passport photo is great, and does remind me of the wild West! šŸ˜‰

Thanks, Diana! Yeah, the other picture really fits better, and particularly in ways that I can’t say unless you’ve read the book ;) I had posted an earlier version of the passport photo, but I liked the sepia-tones version here – makes it more Wild West.
