Hi All! This last week was pretty nice. In many ways it felt like summer (we had a total of four days above 90 F/30 C, which is warm for New Hampshire in May. I spent as much time as possible outside.
One thing that happened on Sunday that was odd but made me smile was someone new on my patio. I walked out of the house, and there he was, just in front of me. It looked like he had come out from under the small porch and was heading towards the woods.

This is a painted turtle, which is usually seen in or around water, particularly ponds and lakes. There is no water close to my house. His back end looked a little like he had been roughed up, but his back legs did come out and worked correctly, so I think he is OK. I have no idea what he was doing there. I went for a very long walk and he was gone by the time I got back.
So my smile this week was the summer like weather and seeing a painted turtle where I would not expect one.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

My father had a pet snapping turtle, yes a pet. Anyway, when dad passed I had to get this turtle, named Charlie, out of the aquarium where he lived and to the turtle sanctuary. What an experience. That turtle was leaping at me like he wanted to bit off my finger. I was terrified! But I got him to the sanctuary safe and sound. I do have to wonder though, why a snapping turtle? A painted turtle looks cute and not aggressive. Haha, get smile post Trent. Thanks for sharing.

Pet turtles were once very popular, though not as much any more (thankfully). I’m sure it wasn’t fun to try to capture! I once helped a huge snapping turtle across the road and it didn’t seem to thankful for the help ;) Thanks for stopping by.

This morning i had heard on radio it’s World Turtle Day today! :-) Wow, four days with temperatures around 30 degrees C. I think i have to move to New Hampshire. Here we only had two days over 22 degrees C. ;-/ Best wishes, Michael

I did not know that today was World Turtle Day – so funny that I posted this today! It had been less than 15 C for weeks, so suddenly jumping up to over 30, wow, it was too hot! lol. People complained when it was cool, now when it is warm. Thanks for the reblog.

On my excercise walk is a small park that houses about 5 turtles, but they’re quite squeamish! My smile is of course my grandson and son.

Typically I only see them on the shore or logs in the water, and they are pretty squeamish, jumping into the water at the first sign of a human.

I, too, saw two of these yesterday. Someone close by said it was a snapping turtle. Either way, they were lovely. People feed them obviously, because they both were giving us the stink eye, waiting for us to throw something in.

Snapping turtles are more rugged looking than this one, but still, I agree, beautiful in its own way. Someone might have been throwing some raw meat out for the snapping turtles, but they may have just been giving you the stink eye for being human ;)
