Hi all! This last week was pretty good. I had a mini-vacation – I took Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday off of work. I spent the week at my house on Cape Cod, so did a lot of Cape Cod types of things. There are beaches, woods to walk in and places to explore. But, for me, the big thing is kayaking!
I did several paddles over the course of the week, including Saturday. I brought my camera out on most of them (one time was so rough and windy, I didn’t bother – I came back soaked) and I think i got a few really good photos – we’ll see later.
At my old place I was restricted to Swan Pond and the Swan River. Here, I am still restricted to the Bass River, but there is a lot more territory to explore, even if it is a long paddle away to anything as wild as parts of Swan River. I did not head towards the ocean on any of my paddles, but explored most of the coves, little ponds, etc. that I could reach going the other way, all of the way up to the far reaches of Follin’s Pond
A couple of highlights were watching a mama osprey feeding her chicks and watching an osprey attack an eagle. Eagles are so much bigger (osprey have a 6 foot/2 meter wingspan – eagles are bigger…) and often bully osprey, stealing fish and I’ve even seen video of them swiping chicks out of osprey nests, so seeing the osprey attacking the eagle was odd.
That was my smile for the week, havign a mini-vacation and getting out for a few very long kayak paddles.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.
Fabulous way to spend your long weekend. Happy 4th July.

That does sound odd with the eagle – hmmm
And glad you enjoyed kayaking and some time off

The eagle was in a tree and osprey swooping at it – maybe the eagle stole a fish and the osprey was upset? Thanks, Yvette! Have a great 4th of July weekend!

I actually know someone who kayak paddles. That made me smile! Also, I got the music post done. Big smile there!

Kayaking must be fun. And watching birds around us. I have not seen an osprey. I will check. Google really helps, we can check when we want to learn something more.

It is nice to be out on the water and in nature. A kayak makes you feel more a part of it than most boats and even canoes.
I used to post a lot of osprey photos – maybe I’ll post more soon. They are large birds that eat mostly fish. They dive straight into the water when they see something, making a huge splash. Their nests are giant. They used to be endangered, but now there are quite a few.

Hi, Trent – Cheers to mini-vacations!
We are currently in Banff, Alberta (Canada’s Rocky Mountains) with our youngest son who lives in Hong Kong. We are loving every minute of it!

Banff sounds wonderful! I love the Rockies, but have never been to the Canadian Rockies. The photos I’ve seen of that area are lovely. Of course I wouldn’t mind visiting in the winter (I’m a skier).

HI Trent, what a great mini-vacation. I am also having a mini-break now although a little longer than yours. I had to take 8 days leave before the end of June or lose them, so here I am having a vacation at home.

It was a nice little vacation. Glad you are getting a little break, even if it is somewhat forced… “Staycations” are always nice, though I think most of us are tired of them after the pandemic!

You had a much more exciting weekend than I did. Our weather was way to hot for me, spent most of it inside. A little boring but I enjoyed it 😁😁

I think it was a hot weekend for a lot of people! One good thing about being on a peninsula sticking far out into the ocean – it keeps the air a little cooler.

So happy for your mini vacation dear Trent. Sounds blissful and I’m glad for a change the Osprey’s fought back with the mighty Eagles. :)
The Kayaking sounds divine like always. We all need such breaks time and again, to replenish and reboot our being.
I hope you have a lovely week ahead. God speed.

I love being out in nature and out on the water watching nature take its course. The osprey vs. the eagle thing was cool, and it is good to see the smaller bird (still huge!) fighting back. There is something about being outside that does replenish :)
I hope you have a wonderful week!

Yes, nature breaks are the best. Over -surpass every thing else in life so I believe.
