Yesterday I posted some of the photos I took at the end of May and through June. There were tons of photos, but I was missing the osprey. Well, here they are!
Anyway, as I said yesterday, I am planning three posts:
Photos – Everything but the Osprey…
Photos – Osprey! (This post)
Photos – Lens Review
This is number two, osprey!

All of these photos are from Cape Cod, and most from the kayak taken in June. As always, I saw a lot of osprey. I had a few issues – the light was often as wrong as you can imagine. There was also the issue I talked about where I had been decreasing the aperture (increasing fstop) without realizing it, so I kept getting more and more motion blur. i would increase ISO to compensate, but that gives grainy photos. And other issues.
Still, I did get a few good photos, including photos of chicks being fed.

In the group of larger chicks being fed (two adults in the nest in images below), I had some where you could see pretty big hunks of fish, but they were all too blurry :( But I did get some good ones of the tiny chicks being fed.

There were three active nests I photographed (OK, five, but three where you can see the chicks). In one the chicks were almost as big as the adults, in another they were tiny and the third they were in between.

Anyway, here are the photos. As always, click on a photo to get more detail and to allow you to scroll through the bigger photos.

Your photography is sharp and clear, love it

Thanks, I do love watching the osprey and feel lucky to have been able to photograph them in the nest. One benefit of doing photography from a kayak…

Getting good pictures of birds and animals is hard. I spend a lot of time doing the same thing and want to go on a photography course in the future.

It can be hard. I am lucky to live in a place where I can get a lot of practice with the osprey, though it is harder for me to practice with lions and such ;) I may take a wildlife photography course some day (I had a couple of general photography courses many years ago).

These are SO GOOD! I haven’t taken my good camera out in the kayak, kinda scared to do that.

Thanks, Dawn! I have always brought my good camera out on the kayak with me, which is one reason I upgraded my telephoto – the new one is “splash-proof” while the old one wasn’t. I get the equipment wet quite often, so now there is a little less to worry about.
