The Weekly Smile for the 11th of July, 2022 #weeklysmile

Hi all! This was an odd week with a lot to smile about, but very little that stands out. So, yes, it will be a “it’s the small things that matter” post ;)

Although there was some rain and such, the last week had pretty close to perfect weather. The days were warm, borderline hot, but the nights cool, almost cold. Because of the cool nights, I was able to manipulate the windows and keep the house down right chilly all day.

I spent a huge amount of time outside and was able to get some great runs in, as well as many walks, both with and without dogs. Twice I saw deer as I walked. One of the times I was by a pond and watched a deer on the other side getting a drink.

Thinking of deer, as I was driving early Saturday, just coming out my small town onto a major road, a tiny fawn stepped into the road. I slowed almost to a stop, scaring it. It ran up to where the momma deer was eating, ran in a few circles like it was playing and came close to the road again to watch me drive by. Hope momma deer took the little one far away from the busy road (it was not busy when I drove by!). They were gone 30 minutes later, so I figure she did.

Oh, I got a hair cut. Here is before:

And here is after:

As always, quite the difference.

And, of course, there was more to smile about, but that is enough for one post :)

So that is my smile for the week, the little things, like good weather, comfortable houses, wildlife and haircuts :)

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).  Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

Funny, nobody mentioned it this time, but in every “before” and “after” haircut photos I post I look much happier “before” with the long hair. lol.

I do love being out in nature and seeing different animals. I love being out in nature and -not- seeing animals as well ;) but thankful when I do see them. There is something about deer, and particularly the fawns – yes, gentle and beautiful.
      Thanks.

It’s the little things that really do matter. The hair cut looks nice and spiffy and the long hair looks great too.

Glad you got some special deer sightings.

Have a fabulous rest of the week ahead, Trent.

Deer are common enough around here that it isn’t really special to see them, like it is seeing a bear, moose or bobcat, but it does make my day when I do. And seeing the super cute fawn…!!
Thanks re: haircut. And not cut. lol. Just out of curiosity, have you let your hair grow back out again?
      Have a wonderful week, Natasha!

I know exactly what you mean. Those kinds are always special. But the fawn would have been endearing to watch I can imagine.

Yes, I’ve let me hair grow out. It’s still on that really, short pixie cut stage and most people tell me, keep it that way; but for now I’m letting it grow out further.
I have now streaks of salt and pepper too, which again most people/friends/family love and tell me to stick to.

Que sera sera whatever will be, will be – we’ll see!
I’m not stuck. Will go with the flow. 😃

    Hi Trent
I really need to join the weekly smile again – and it is not that difficult because you are so flexible and accept anything
    – I am just scaling way back on challenges because they were robbing my joy of blogging (not the weekly smile) but always thinking about linking tk challenges and in my case- I was adding three in a post / so I wore myself out and needed a new MO!

Anyhow – glad to drop by and see your hair cut (the hair looks so soft and healthy)
And I hope the baby deer gets far away from the road too

      Hi Yvette.
I’d be great if you joined in, but no pressure at all – the last thing this needs to be is an obligation or chore! (Sometimes it can be a chore, but most of the time it is good).
The “after” photo was less than an hour after the haircut, so my hair looks puffier than usual after taking all of that weight off! But, long, short, puffy or not, at my age I am happy to have this much hair ;)
I have not seen photos or anything about the fawn on the town’s facebook page, so I am hoping the mother has taken it someplace a little safer!
Hope you are havign a great week :)

        ☀️🌸
And juggling a couple challenges but in the bigger picture – really can’t complain and just enjoying this beautiful warm week in July

Oh, I have so many smiles, and that is because my daughter, her hubby and her three kids were here last week. Am quite jazzed that they tried out my potterywheel and made a piece, and a painting:)

Once i actually go, I don’t mind having my hair cut, but I hate making appointments and such. That’s one of the reasons I’ve had 3 haircuts in the last 2 years. And, as you do, I like when it looks better afterwards.

Smiles this week….well I helped a friend go pick up a kayak she bought, and we laughed a lot when we were trying to secure it in the back of my truck. And I made coffee cake for a neighbor who had knee surgery this week, and got to eat a couple (ok 3) pieces and it was REALLY good, so that was a definite smile. And I painted a lopsided selfie yesterday in response to a watercolor challenge that made me giggle. So you’re right, there are always some smiles about!

You know how I feel about kayaking, so big smile about helping someone pick up a new one, even if your smile was about the awkwardness of transporting it. Other smiles are great as well – I really like helping your neighbor with a side benefit of an excuse to eat some coffeecake…

Compiling a second post is very time-consuming. I’ve taken Terri’s advice and when someone posts a link on one of my challenges, I immediately copy the link and paste it into the ongoing post. Then I copy the same links into the next post as well. So they get two links for the price of one. I do miss some if I’m not careful. When I read on my phone, I have trouble cutting and pasting. BTW, I like your hair both ways. The good news is that you have some! That would make my husband smile. :)

I started the challenge using an InLinkz, but I hated the free version and so was paying to have a handful of people join in. So I changed to having a recap post with links to all of the people who joined in. As you said, super time consuming, and I do this in small two minute breaks from work, so it became impossible to keep up. When I stopped doing the recap post, I lost 80% of the people who used to contribute… Oh well.
Thanks, re:haircut. Yes, I am thankful to still have enough hair to chose between long or short(shortish).

Wow, that’s a huge loss. I have one challenge that has never caught on – Writer’s Quotes Wednesdays. I get maybe 3-10 people per week. I’ve considered stopping it, but I enjoy it so I’ll keep going to the end of the year and then maybe drop off. The others do a little better, but they are not huge. If they were I’d never get anything done, though, so I’m fine with all of them.

Maybe 75%, not 80 ;) I had about 15 people regularly, maybe as few as a dozen and maybe as many as 20 on occasion. Now it’s around 4 (so 4 = 1/4 of 16 = 75% ;)). I have dropped this a few times and may again in the future, but the people who like it really like it.
