Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I will get you a nice large mug of super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or some other beverage. It is a gorgeous day out there! (I hope you get that that means I have to be short here ;) ). Oh, were are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as coming from Cape Cod.
If you joined me last week, you know that I was one Cape Cod then as well. Did I go back to New Hampshire and return so soon? No, I have been down here for over a week. Not just that, I took some time off of work. I had Monday already, so I took the rest of the week. For years this was the week my parents came to visit, but I just saw them in Scotland, so… Anyway, I decided to take the week anyway.
It rained all day Tuesday, and Wednesday was cold and wet, if not rainy. Thursday started off cold and wet as well, but the clouds blew off a little after 3PM. In other words, not the greatest week weather-wise, made worse that the forecast was much more optimistic.
I did the usual stuff. I kayaked a lot, I had walks in the woods and by the salt marshes, I swam in the ocean, sat on beaches, walked on beaches, ran by the beach, read, walked dogs, took care of cats, exercised, had breakfast out one morning, etc. Despite the few bad days, a typical week off on Cape Cod.
I know I just had a long stretch off of work (Scotland), but I was not relaxed, and work has been insane all year – take the previous most stressful year in my life and multiply it by 1000. I did need this time off, so I am happy that I took it.
Anyway, I do need to get out there asap – the weather is absolutely perfect, the best all week, and I hate begin inside!
Thanks for stopping in! If you have a coffee share, I will try to visit.
Natalie the Explorer is now the host of the weekend coffee share and she is doing a wonderful job. Stop in at this week’s main share page or go to the InLinkz-Linkup to see all of the other shares!
Can definitely relate to needing a week off for yourself. Travel is hard work especially with the family in tow. I’ve not yet gone through my photos for my time in California and keen to reflect. Thaks for sharing this feeling, I was feeling guilty!

Thanks. Although it is great, travel does take a lot out of you. I am assuming you are still in the middle of your travels, so I can understand why you haven’t had time to look at the California part of it!
I’ll admit that there have been times I have been overwhelmed enough that it has taken several months to even think of looking at photos, but typically, with International travel, I like to look asap, though that often makes me even more burned out, and I need a huge break after the photos are finished – that’s how it was this time.

We came back about 4 weeks ago and straight into decorating a flat and work. I really must make some time to reflect.

Yes, you need a bit of time to go through photos and reflect a bit.

I think it should take time to fully digest a vacation, it’s the same thing as giving yourself time to look forward to it before it happens, to fully enjoy it one should take time to digest it as well.
I hope your weekend was lovely and that you did enjoy the weather outside ! Have a wonderful new week!

I look at a major vacation as occurring in three steps – the preparation, the actual travel, the photos/reliving/digestion of it…. This last week was the fourth stage, the recuperation ;) Actually, it was nice to just relax. And we did have great weather over the weekend.
Thanks, I hope you have a wonderful week as well!

That is indeed a great point of view. Thank you!

I always feel like I need to take a vacation to recover from my vacation, so good on you for doing that. Rest is so important. And even a bad-weather day at the beach is still a day at the beach.

It was a nice little post-vacation vacation – a much needed one! Yesterday was about as good of a day as can be imagined – warm but not uncomfortably hot, no wind, etc.

I relate to what you wrote about the need for time off, and am thinking … perhaps I should follow your lead and take that time! (I feel calmer even imagining it. :)

Time off can really help, and staycations are the best if that is what you are after… If you feel calmer thinking about it, I think you need to do it!

Weeks like the one you last had are a part of the world you and I joined on purpose. Most of the time, I feel fortunate to have found a place in it, but at times like you describe – it’s more like punishment I didn’t think I deserved.

I do feel fortunate to have the job I have, but sometimes… As I said to Yvette Prior, I haven’t seen my worst day, week or even month this year, but it has just been more relentless than ever. It is the non-stop part that gets me down. But, as you said, I did join on purpose and I would rather be doing this than most jobs I can think of. On the other hand, didn’t we just discuss retirement last coffee share? lol. I hope you are having a great weekend and that you have a good week ahead, and not one where you feel you are being punished…

Sometimes, depending on the type of vacation, I come home and joke that I need a holiday. Haha, why not? Glad you are getting the time you need. Thanks for the virtual coffee, Trent.

Exactly, I need a vacation from my vacation! It was nice to have this week to decompress a little. Back to reality tomorrow.

Hi Trent, holidays abroad are not restful so I can understand you are not relaxed. I also find a bit of time off at home doing stuff you like doing makes a world of difference to my stress levels.

I agree 100%. “Staycations” are great for reviving that bit of lost energy. Travel, well, it is great and I love every minute, but not so restful… I hope you are having a great weekend and have a wonderful week ahead.

A week off work, spent on Cape Cod is wonderful even with the weather not cooperating. But today! Today needs to be spent out there in the sun! Enjoy!

Hi Trent – your mention of Scotland and not being relaxed (yet refreshed in so many other ways from a wonderful adventure like that) it reminded me how taxing some trips can be and I am still catching up physically from a quick visit to connect with my stepdaughter and her children –
Also-
Wow ! This was an intense year for you when you put it like this
“take the previous most stressful year in my life and multiply it by 1000”
Wow!

I loved being in Scotland and am so glad I went, but it was super restful… Yeah, some trips can be both rewarding and taxing.
I might have exaggerated a little bit, and I have had weeks/months that were more stressful, it is just that this year has been nonstop and there is no end in sight. It’s been like a hydra – every time I think we have a situation solved, seven new issues pop up.
Anyway, it is always nice to have a break, and this week is my traditional break so :)
I hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Hi t
I like that hydra analogy a lot!
And by the way a thought of you because at a mini festival in Florida there is a guy running for office with last name Trent – so I grabbed a few photos and will share them at some point
And my weekend is going well.
Lots of work stuff today but pacing it and actually stuff I want to do – including working on a manuscript (even tho it is at the point where a little burnout sets in – so just pushing through)

When I was a little kid I was told that Trent was more common as a last name than a first, yet since then I have bumped into several first-named Trents but no last-named Trents…

That is interesting – and now that I think about it I see very few first name Trent’s – I did know a “Brent” in college – and that is another not so comment name

I’ve bumped into a few Trents, and there have even been a few famous ones, like a past Senate Majority Leader…
Several years ago there were two different college football players named Trent McDonald! And there is a wildlife biologist in Wyoming who has a few books on Amazon named Trent McDonald. Some people wonder why I use my middle initial, “P”, in my name, but this is it!

Oh – that makes sense to use the P!

I keep thinking about posting but then time flys away! I’ve been spending most of my time painting.

I used to do a lot of painting, but I have no time time… Also, for me I would need a studio that is always set up and ready to go, and I just didn’t have that. Maybe some day… Enjoy the painting!

Thanks! I had the same problem but once out children were grown my husband was able to move his “man cave” to our basement family room and I turned his former room into a studio. It’s gets great light and I can leave a mess and just close the door. Heaven!

My mancave/studio is filled with musical equipment, so no room for paint… I’m sure having the studio is paradise.
