Hi all! Welcome to this week’s weekly smile :) Anyway, after that intro, I am going to be boring and repeat things I have said 1000 time before…
I spent the weekend on Cape Cod. I was able to get out on the kayak on Friday and Saturday, took a few long walks in the woods and a few on the beach, including going out to my favorite beach for walking, Chapin Beach, for one of the only times this year.
Kayaking on Friday was nice, but it was as rough as I’ve seen it in a while. I was pretty wet by the time I got back because of all of the water splashing over the kayak. I went a different way than usual, which was nice. I usually don’t go towards the ocean in the summer because of all of the boat traffic, but it is fine in the fall.
It was cooler on Saturday, but calmer. I did one of my normal paddles, stretching it out a bit. I saw some wildlife, which is always nice, but didn’t see any seals this week.
The return to Chapin Beach was nice. You can almost imagine you are the first person to ever walk that beach. There was nobody there and there are no houses or other buildings on it.
Most of the weekend was pretty close to what I usually do on Cape Cod, but that wet and wild paddle was different, as was getting out to Chapin.
That was my smile for the week, a nice weekend on Cape Cod doing some of the usual but in unusual ways.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

To be out in the wilderness where no one else steps, and a beach all to oneself. Wow.

It was great to be out and about. Of course, at low tide, where ever you go, you will always be the first, but with this beach, you can’t see any buildings, so it makes it feel like nobody has ever been there.

I love that the stretch of sand you walk on is unique with each tide

I have often thought about it as I walk on the low tide sand – in some ways I am walking where nobody has walked before since the tide has erased the presence. And watching as the incoming tide destroys some places and the retreating tide creates others is always fascinating.

Kayaking and going for walks on the beach certainly must bring some smiles on your face. Sounds brilliant. Perhaps I’ll join your weekly smile post next week, it would probably do me good right now.

Long walks and kayaking bring many smiles, I just feel I use them too often here ;) It was a great weekend outdoors. I hope you can do a smile post some time.

That experience of being the only human observing a natural place in a moment in time is humbling. Your excursions are delightful to read about!

Thanks! It is a great place, though there are footprints. However, if you go out onto the tidal flats at all, you really are the first person to have walked across it!

I’ve never been to Cape Cod or kayaking 😔 I should try it one day, especially since I live in Orlando!

I really like Cape Cod, but it is very different from Florida! As to kayaking, yes, you need to try it! You can kayak all year down there (you may get a little wet…). I don’t know about around Orlando, but I know there are a lot of great fresh water and saltwater places to kayak down there.
Of course now might not be the best time to go…
