Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or some other beverage. It is a very nice day out there and will be warm later today – short sleeve shirt weather. Oh, where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.
This was an odd week all around, though I don’t remember half of it ;)
I almost forgot… I spent all day Sunday on Cape Cod, something I usually don’t do – I usually leave early in the morning. So after our last coffee share I did a few long walks on the beach, including going to my favorite beach, Chapin, for one of the few walks there this year. I was also able to get out on the kayak again. So it was nice.
Work was busy, but not insane. I had Monday off. I had a dentist appointment on Tuesday, the first, painful part of having a crown replaced. Tuesday night was Lions Club.
I did a pretty good job of keeping up with my running this week, which is good. I have not been as consistent this year as the last few. I was also able to get my other dumbbell and body weight exercises done. I walked the dogs a lot, despite almost 24 hours of torrential rains Thursday afternoon through Friday. I walked on my own a few times.
Perhaps the big news is writing. I came up with the idea for a book and “wrote” the entire thing in my head. I sat down and did a quick synopsis, so I wouldn’t forget anything (I often write things in my head, but rarely do the synopsis when I am done, I usually just write it or I don’t write it). Anyway, my quick synopsis was 11,000 words long… I may aim this at YA but I do not want to write in the style I often see in YA books, I want to write in my style, so I had a post asking people’s opinions.
The second part of writing is my new short story. I had made an off-the-cuff remark on someone’s post. They said it sounded like a story. I did a quick, three sentence tag-line of a movie based on this fictional (fictional here meaning there really isn’t a story) story. But then I thought, “Hey, that might actually be good…” So I sat down and wrote a quick 6,000 word story and posted it yesterday. As some of you know, me writing a story like that isn’t super unusual – I used to write stories of this length and post them within two hours of the challenge photo being posted. Only it is now – my writing has been down to almost zero for the last two years, so all of this writing this past week is great. Maybe I am ready to get back into it.
Anyway, as I said, it is beautiful out there and I need to participate in sunshine and bright fall colors.
Thanks for stopping by! If you have a coffee share I will be sure to drop in for a visit!
Natalie the Explorer is the host of the weekend coffee share and she is doing a wonderful job. Stop in at this week’s main share page or go to the InLinkz-Linkup to see all of the other shares!
Sounds like a great week all in all.
Thanks for the cuppa!

Yes, we had some great weather over the weekend :) Although we are looking into a couple of days of rain, most of this week should be pretty good as well.
I hope you had a good weekend and have a good week :)

The words “a quick 6,000 word story” made me laugh. I feel victorious when I manage a quick 600 words, so–cheers on that “quick” effort (not to mention the other great work you mentioned here!).

Sometimes when I have an idea for a story, I type it out as fast as I can think, so… lol, yeah, “a quick 6,000 word story” does sound funny, doesn’t it? I’m surprised that quite a few people have actually read it. I hope you had a good weekend!

3 things I’m jealous about, your weather, the fact you went kayaking, and your writing inspiration. :-) I wrote a short story about a year ago, sent it to my editor friend and there it’s sat, with her suggestions. Not that the suggestions are an issue, I just haven’t gotten the energy back to revisit it. Looking forward to reading your story!

I understand completely – I find editing harder than writing… The weather here has been great. October is usually my favorite month, and this October has been a winner so far. I know it has been a little cooler out that way.
Anyway, hope you had a good weekend!

Nothing like a change of seasons and some outdoor activity to get the creative juices flowing. Congrats on the work, I started your short yesterday, but didn’t have time to finish. Will go back and read when I can give it proper attention.

I think the beautiful weather does help my mood and gets the creative juices flowing. It has been a while since I have done anythign too creative, and I have noticed in the past that when I take these unintentional breaks, I get to a breaking point where I have to just let it flow for a while – after being contained for a while, it has to burst out. Hope you enjoy the rest of the story! And hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hi Trent, I’d noticed that you weren’t writing as much as when we first met several years ago now. Glad to see you back at it and I hope to read your new story maybe tomorrow because this coming week is going to be crushing once it gets going. Starting it with some of your work is appealing.

Thanks, Gary, it is great to be back into my writing. I’ll have to warn you that the story I posted is much more political than I usually write! Hope you enjoy. And I hope the rest of your weekend goes well.

Thanks! It has been a while since I have been able to sit down and write like that. I hope it is a sign that I will be able to take off again in my writing.
I took a series of photos in that same place for each season, but I used a mug for the other three. I really like the formal set in the autumn one :)

17000 words in a week!!! I’m so jealous!!! It’s been at least six months since I got that much new material done in a week. And IMO, YA books are best when they’re written in the author’s normal style. The only difference from adult is the age of the main characters.

It has been several years since I have written like that… I hope it is signs of things to come. I have decided to just write the book out and then see if it fits in with YA – as you said, the biggest part of YA is the age, but there is also the no X-Rated material, and perhaps the exploration of deeper places (I always thought it strange that YA often takes on deeper subjects than adult fiction…). We’ll see.
I hope your weekend is going well!

How impressive about writing an entire book in your head! That’s really cool. It sounds like you had a productive and good week. Of course I envy the running! But I’ll get back out there eventually. Next week I may be able to go for walks again!

I do a lot of my best writing in my head. I can usually keep track of it, but I also sometimes lose a lot! It was a productive week :)
I know I am lucky to be able to keep up the running – I think once you hit a certain place, it is easier to do it without problems, but there are a lot of injuries and problems as people work up to it. Sorry you had problems with it. I’m sure it is so tough to not be able to go for walks, particularly in Autumn! (Autumn is my favorite for walking). I’ll try to stop by in a bit, but it may be tomorrow before I get a chance.

It is great to see you also are returning to writing after some time off. Sometimes we just need a break to juice up the batteries so to speak. I loved the picture of the cups and pot at the top of the post. It is a nice pattern with a lovely color scheme.

Thanks, Tessa. Sometimes we all need a bit of a break, though this one was not a conscious one…
I took a series of season photos at that exact same place and this one, autumn, is my favorite.

Sounds like a solid week, Trent. Do you ever participate in NaNoWriMo in November?

It was a very solid writing week. I have written a novel in 30 days, but never got involved in NaNoWriMo. Actually, maybe this is the year since I do have that book already written in my head, just waiting for me to take dictation and put it on “paper” (electrons).

Sounds like someone was bitten by the inspiration bug! It’s been a long time since I’ve written anything “quick” at 6000 words, haha! But I’m happy you’re able to write again! Hoping I can find that burst of inspiration too!

Yes, for some reason that inspiration bug gave me a nasty bite… Since you are getting back into the writing habit I am sure you can identify with it. I hope your inspiration bites soon!

11,000 words, a synopsis? For me this sometimes is the whole book. Lol Thanks for sharing your experiences of this week! Be well, stay save and keep on with th book! Best wishes, Michael

Sometimes when I get started… lol. In ways it was more of a “prose-outline” than a synopsis. Hope you are having a great weekend!
