Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea, a mug of hot cocoa or some other beverage. It is pretty chilly out there, below freezing, and it won’t get too warm at all today. What a difference a week makes! I kayaked last Friday and Saturday, even going into the water up to my waist on Saturday, and then… We had snow over night into Wednesday, but the the rain washed it away by noon. And where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.
This was an odd week over all. As I said, it was cold. We had a bit of rain and snow. But I did get out and take pretty nice walks every day except Wednesday. That was the day that it rained all morning, work didn’t let me even leave my desk in the early afternoon and then I had massage in the evening. I was also able to run a couple of times and will get out today. My exercise routine was a little off, but I did a bit of that as well. It was a week of something happening every day after work again, so… I am ready to go back to the pandemic so I can exercise again! lol, OK, maybe not.
I did mention work once. Perhaps that is enough except to say it was very busy this week.
I can’t impress you with a huge word count on my WIP this week. It was perhaps 10K words. I also deleted over 2K words… So, I was writing the last chapter and it just seemed wrong. I put it down, thought about it, reread a little. After that, I decided to remove the last chapter and half of the second to last chapter and end it early. I went back through and cleaned up a few places and added information in a few early chapters because half way through I had ideas and didn’t want to go back while the story was coming out of the fire-hose. I am doing a real quick run through and then I will call it First Draft and shelve it for at least three months, most likely six or more.
Anyway, although it is cold, it looks like it will be a pretty nice day (sunny, little wind). I will get those walks I missed in and go running. I also have a million little things to do around the house that I’ve been putting off.
Thanks for stopping in! If you have a coffee share, I will try to visit. Hope you have a great weekend.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Water up to your waist? In a wetsuit or waders?

Swim suit! The air was in the 70s and water perhaps in the low 50s maybe 40s. Not sure.. I was out at high tide and there was no beach at my landing, so I had to get out in the water. OK, and waist might be an exaggeration – the water was over my knees but below my waist, about half way. I didn’t stay in long! But I did have to pick up the kayak and lift it onto a four foot high wall, so long enough to do that and then pull myself onto that wall.
So, we went from high 60s to low teens in a week…

From warmer than usual to colder than usual… At least I don’t live in Buffalo! Ouch!

I am not looking forward to the snow. Hope it will be light this year.

Me too, though we did have a few light winters recently, so I guess I can’t complain too much if we get hammered…

Ah no hammering unless I don’t have to leave my facility LOL!

10K is a solid weekly word count! I’ve been thoroughly unproductive for… well… months, so you’re definitely doing better than I am. Congrats on being almost done with the first draft!
Work has thrown me off my exercise routine too (well, and laziness. Definitely laziness.) And now I have company coming, so I doubt I’ll get back to it for at least another week. *sigh*
Have a great rest of your weekend!

I had a couple of record breaking (for em) weeks, so 10K felt a little down… except that I wrote “The End” and am about ready to call the First Draft 100% done – that counts for more than all of those other words!
I am sure the marathon editing left little time for anything else, and now you have Thanksgiving coming up… Hope you can get back into the routine soon so you don’t have to make it a New years’ resolution…

Ohh, what WIP is this? Sounds like you are on a roll.
I’ll drink a coffee to that, a nice dark black one!
Have a great week, Trent!

The WIP is a fantasy book. It isn’t aimed at young people, but I will call it YA since the hero is 14 and part of it is a coming of age story.
I hope you have a wonderful week, Resa!

Ahh, neat!! It’s cold and snowy up here, so I should get a lot of sewing done. We are getting just an edge of that snow event in Buffalo! Yikes!

Hope you aren’t buried too deep! But then, you have pies to keep you warm, and sewing to keep you from getting bored.

What an interesting week! The weather have been all over the place here as well. It is suppose to start snowing more tonight and snow for a week! A region in southern Sweden got 40cm of snow last night, that’s like almost 16 inches. We currently only have a light dusting of snow.
I hope you get your well needed outdoor time this weekend. Thank you for the coffee :)

It has been an interesting week all around.
You may have heard that Buffalo, NY got over 5 feet of snow in the last few days, just under 170 cm. That is too much! A dusting this early is fine…. Snowing for a week? I guess that is a good start to the winter and the local ski area should be happy.
I did get out a bit today, including my run. I hope you are having a great weekend :)

Congratulations on the first draft (Since it will probably be done before next weekend 😁). I don’t miss the crazy weather, although I was relieved when it finally dropped below 80 here a couple of days ago!

Thanks! It is close enough to being done, so…
The weather has been crazy – from 30 degrees warmer than usual to 30 degrees colder than usual! Yeah, one reason I won’t be following you to Florida any time soon – if I never saw above 80 I’d be happy, and I sure don’t want to see it after Labor Day! Having it until Veterans’ Day is a bit much…
Hope you are having a good weekend!

So what is this first draft? Fiction? Memoir? I’d like to hear about it. Do you have other published work as well?
Happy week ahead to you!🌺

It is fiction. A little more specifically, it’s a fantasy that is on the border between YA and just plain “classic fantasy”. I have self published three novels, two books of short stories and a book with two long novellas.
Hope your weekend is going well :)

Allbest in your writing. Mine has been sporadic at best since 2020, but it is still chugging along. Sometimes shelving it gives it more flavor later

Thanks. My writing has been pretty much at a standstill for the last two years, so ti was great that I went from an idea in my head to a finished first draft so easily. I do find that if I let the story sit for a while I can see it with fresh eyes and can spot trouble areas and such easier. And, as you say, hopefully add a bit more flavor to that bland first draft.
Have a good weekend :)

I’m still finding our weather to be a bit off, it’s still way warmer than it has been the previous years. I’m not complaining, just noticing.
Congrats on finishing up your first draft. I’m a couple chapters off finishing up the manuscript up I’m working on. Exciting stuff.
Have a great weekend, Trent.

I think everyone is having a weird late autumn.
It does feel good to finish the draft after not writing very much the last couple of years :) Great that you are finishing your current WIP. Yes, exciting stuff.
Thanks, I hope you have a great weekend as well, Shari.

Hurrah for your creativity AND productivity! i am always impressed that the trees can deal with the swings of temperature/weather you describe… I usually do my walking at night because I like to practice song lyrics and sing while walking (and there are fewer people on the streets then…) And I also realized during the past couple of years that I am much more introverted than I had previously believed.

I can understand practicing song lyrics while walking. I often write stories in my head while I walk and sometimes write music, though not lyrics. I think I can get away with humming more than singing out loud when people are around ;) I’ve always been very much an introvert, so I did really well being semi-isolated.
Hope you are having a great weekend!

Last week a friend and I walked, he in shorts, and we had lunch outside on a patio in town. This week it’s in the 20s with 6 inches of snow. Not complaining, I could live in Buffalo.

I know, poor Buffalo! It is odd how quickly we went from 20 degrees above normal to 20 degrees below…

10k words is still impressive, and kayaking sounds really fun. Do you notice an improvement in mood when you take pretty winter walks? I have also been trying to get out for a walk daily despite the cold and gloom and rain, and it does wonders for when the days end abruptly at 4pm.

Walking always improves my mood, but you might be right that my mood needs even more improvement on those blah winter days… And with those super short days – any time outside in the sun is a plus.

HI Trent, I saw that there was snow in the USA this past week. It seems to me that the working world changed during the pandemic and a lot of boundaries were erase or infringed on. Now that the pandemic is more or less gone, that has not reversed so we are back to a full life with all the extra that was loaded on during the pandemic. It has become ridiculous.

There was snow across most of the north, but the areas east of the Great Lakes got clobbered. As cold air blows across the open water it picks up moisture, so when it hits land, the snow just dumps.
Not all of the post-pandemic changes are for the best. I think it will go back and forth a little as people adjust to a new normal. Right now it is as if people want to make up for those two lost years. My half-complaints are more about being an Introvert and now having something scheduled almost every day. I got used to doing my own thing every day after work! lol.
I hope you are having a good weekend :)

Yes, I suppose that’s my complaint – overscheduled!
