Hi All! Hope you are doing well. It is another week of not having time to write this – why I chose to post the smile shortly after getting to work on a Monday! Anyway, I have a cat on my lap and am ready for…
OK, another “It’s the small Things” post.
Last week was very low key. i did nice things, but nothing out of the ordinary. I went to Cape Cod, which is always nice. I took a very long walk on the beach and watched the sun set over the ocean (see photo below). i had some long walks in the woods. Back in New Hampshire I saw some deer on Sunday morning. Always cool. I wrote two songs and messed around with both of them. I have had cats on my lap and curled up with my as I sleep.

All of those little things are smile worthy :) And there were so many more. The blanket of snow this morning (OK, mixed feelings there..) ), a nice conversation with a friend, etc., etc.
Our lives are made up of a lot of small moments and only a few big ones. To enjoy life sometimes we need to pay attention to those small moments.
So that is my smile for the week, all of the small things that made up the fabric of the week.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.
Deciding to include the article about me in my newest post made me smile. I had been hiding it! Lol!
Or should I say, smiling out loud!

Yes, they do. We need to live our lives for the moment, which is “small things”.

You are definitely right about this, it is all the little things (not necessarily “things”) that are life. Walking on the beach watching the sun set over the ocean sounds like a marvellous thing to me. The snow made me smile many times this past week. Funny thing is that for many of my friends it’s actually the ice they look forward to the most, the ice on the big lakes that surrounds us. I hope your new week is filled with many magical moments.

I do live in hockey country, so ice is huge for a lot of people here as well. A strange thing – I grew up on the shore of Lake Erie, and they always want the lake to ice up so they don’t get those awful storms of lake effect snow, like the one that buried Buffalo a few weeks ago.
It has been cold, so we still have that little snow and it is pretty.
Yes, it is the little “things”, “things” not necessarily being physical objects, though sometimes an apple or acorn squash counts :)
Have a great week :)

Tuesday night this past week my husband and I and two other couples had dinner together, the first time since one of the couples moved there 3 years ago that we could all get together. We had such a nice time. That was a smile. Wednesday morning one of the husbands texted us all that he tested positive for covid. That was not a smile. Friday my husband and I tested and were both negative. That was a smile. Saturday night we tested again because we had company coming for lunch on Sunday. Still negative. More smiles. Sunday two friends from where I used to work came, with soup and crusty bread and we ate lunch and then we sat around the table and painted Christmas cards. So much fun! One of the guys brought his dog too, so I got some dog loving in. Definitely very big smiles there. And we’re still negative…so it’s a win/win/win.

Except for the possible Covid exposure, which luckily missed you, sounds nice. A lot of smiles there, including a little canine time. Hope you have a great week!

Thanks! And I understand that some of my small things are pretty big to others :)

Yes they are. Long walks in particular. I mean, I’m probably not physically capable of walking as far as you are, but I do enjoy a long for me walk a lot.

Hi Trent, I have lots of ‘small things’ to smile about this week, but the one that stands out is an impromptu gathering around the fire pit in our community. It was like everyone had the same idea at the same time. The temperature had dropped a little during the day and as soon as night fell, it was clearly sweater weather. We grabbed a bottle of wine and headed down to the pit. We weren’t alone for long as more people drifted in and joined the conversation. We didn’t know everyone who stopped by, but by the end of the evening, we felt like we had discovered new friends. Little things bring big smiles. Have a beautiful week.
