If We Were Having Coffee on the 28th of January, 2023 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of super strong Dark Roast, a cuppa tea, some hot cocoa or other beverage. It will be a nice day out there, at least relatively speaking. The ground has a deep snow blanket that is getting a bit crunch on the surface and the thawing/freezing snow is causing ice patches, but still, a beautiful day is a beautiful day. Oh, where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.

I didn’t post last weekend because i was in Ohio visiting family. My dad turns 90 at the end of the month so we had a surprise birthday party. Pretty much everyone (minus two spouses) was able to make it.

That is my father in the photo above. Here is my mom – the photo that got more likes on FaceBook than any other five combined ;)

We did a few things, but perhaps the best was going for a short hike with my brother and two of his kids. We went to the Virginia Kendall Ledges which are in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. There is scenery in this park and in some of the Metro Parks that would surprise people to know they are in or around Cleveland and Akron Ohio!

For the most part travel wasn’t bad… until I got back to Boston. New Hampshire received around 8 inches/20 cm of snow the day I flew out. When I flew in we received around 10 inches/25 cm more. It had just changed over from rain to snow in Boston as I was catching the bus back to NH. Every person in Boston decided to leave the second the snow started to fly. Besides what would normally be 4 hours of traffic being compacted into 10 minutes, there were accidents. Every road out of Boston was a parking lot. So, after 3 to 4 hours in the bus, I still had the 18 mile/29 km drive in the slush and snow. Yuck. And then I had to shovel.

So it is now winter!

(BTW – we had snow while I was in Ohio, but not like in NH!)

Work was, well, OK, enough about work.

And that was it. I have a full day planned and will be away from the computer through most of it. When I am not doing my planned activities I plan (ooops) to be outside.

Anyway, I have to go. Thanks for stopping in! I will try to visit as many of your posts as possible. Have a great weekend!

Oh, I almost forgot, I posted another new song a couple of weeks ago. I will post it at the bottom of the page if you haven’t seen it. Don’t worry, it is another instrumental ;)

Natalie the Explorer is the host of the weekend coffee share and she is doing a wonderful job. Stop in at this week’s main share page or go to the InLinkz-Linkup to see all of the other shares!

    Hi Trent,
Happy 90th Birthday to your Dad! I can understand why Mom’s photo received so many likes on Facebook. She’s rather pretty and delightful. Dealing with snow is well beyond my experience. Not only is it Summer here, but it never snows around here. I’ve been away for about 4 weeks and forgot my log in details for WordPress to log in on the laptop and was locked out. That said, I was galavanting around a lot and didn’t have much time.
    Take care and best wishes,
    Rowena

Thanks, Rowena. The photo of my mom is one of the best I’ve gotten of her in a few years, but it still took me by surprise how many people liked and commented on it!
Yeah, Australia isn’t know for it’s snow… Besides opposite seasons, very different from here!
I did read about your holiday. It sounds nice, though I am sorry you were sick. Forgetting passwords is the worst! On of the problems with the modern age.
Hope you have a great week!

Thanks very much, Trent. I’m now starting to write up posts covering my holiday and it’s going to take some time to get through it and I have so many photos.
After writing up about my first day writing around and how disoriented and sheepish I was, I was proud of how I’d grown and how I was soon zipping around confidently.

I almost didn’t bring my camera, so it was nice I was able to get photos of everyone, particularly my parents :)
The hiking was nice – Ohio is very flat, and in people’s perception, even flatter than it is. Living in a place with real mountains – the run I do all of the time starts with a hill that is almost 200 m vertical – there is no place in Ohio with even close to that – it does seem flat. So it is great that there are big cliffs and waterfalls and other hidden treasures there, so close to the city of Cleveland.
Hope you have a wonderful week :)

No wonder the photo of your mom got many likes, she looks SO happy! Did you take the photo? It is a great photo. I bet your dad appreciated being honoured on his important day. How nice to get together with family. Thank you for the coffee and the chat.

Thanks, Maria. Yes, I took all three photos on the page, including my mom. My dad was very appreciative of having all of his kids, grand-kids and great grand-kids visit. We all met 10 years ago for his 80th, so it was great that we could gather again for his 90th :)
      Thanks for stopping in :)

Wow Trent, what a difference 3 time zones make. This week I write about how spring has arrived to my part of the world. Our last rainy week may be now gone and only a few days here and there may turn damp.

But wow – Ohio is looking good. As a place to move to, she’s mentioning it more often now that we’ve driven through it and loved what we saw.

I grew up in northern Ohio on the shore of Lake Erie and went to school in central Ohio (Ohio State in Columbus). There are some pretty spots all over the state, but I do prefer being close to the Lake. And if you are sick of California prices, you will like Ohio (I have a friend who recently moved from Northern Cal to Akron (her original home)).
Although it is winter as far as snow goes, it has been warmer than usual, but frigid weather is forecast for the end of the week. Enjoy your spring-like weather!

Thanks, Robbie. I hope your mom is as healthy as mine :) Snow is great, but driving can be a pain, and in and around the city, yes, chaotic is a good word for it.
Hope you are having a great weekend.

Thanks! It was great that we were able to get together despite weather. I had over 100 likes on FB with my mom’s photo and about 50 comments! My usual for a photo might be a dozen likes and 1 comment ;) .
Hope you are having a great weekend!

Thanks, Alethea! I joked with my niece that I don’t consider something a real hike unless there is at least 1000 foot vertical, but, joking aside, this was a very nice hike.
