The Weekly Smile for the 6th of February, 2023 #weekelysmile

Hi all! Busy day at work, so I will just stop in real quick to post this week’s smile. If you read my Coffee Share post you may already know.

My Ford C-Max plugin hybrid was 10 years old and things were starting to go wrong. I didn’t feel real comfortable driving it back and forth to Cape Cod, worried that I’d have another breakdown (yes, another – two years ago a house popped on my drive, making the car over heat…). Since I had already been plugging my car in, well, the next step made sense:

Last week I bought a Kia EV-6 electric car.

I haven’t had a chance to drive it much yet – just the drive home from the dealership and a then few errands (about 80 miles/129 km so far). So far I really like it. It is super quite. There are a ton of functions and such that I will be learning for the next few months… It can accelerate like a sports car, but I have been babying it so far. I have been getting pretty good efficiency – I have been averaging 4.2 m/kWh, which is equivalent to 141 mpg – this includes driving on the highway and over a large mountain. I’m lazy and won’t look that up in kilometers ;)

So far I have really enjoyed this and hope to for a long time to come. Will it be another 10 years? Possibly.

So that is my smile for the week, picking up a new car.

What made you smile?

****

Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week.  Why don’t you share it?  I hope you can join in!

Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas.  If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity.  Don’t smile about the misfortune of others.  Don’t smile in a way to excludes others.  Make sure a 12 year old can read it.

To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile.  Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ).   You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me).  Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

Wow! This is a huge one!
We have been considering which electric we will buy – the selection in Singapore is not great, nor are the charging outlets readily available. It looks like we might have to get a hybrid when the time comes.

There is a pretty good selection of EVs here and it is getting better, but there is typically a waiting list, so I was lucky I was able to pick one up so fast. The electric infrastructure here isn’t great, but I have my own house and already had a charger, so… I know having a personal charger in a city is a little more difficult so you do rely on what is publicly available a bit more. Some of the hybrids are great – my wife drives a Kia Niro hybrid, which is super efficient and part of the reason I chose Kia over Ford (the Mach-E is one of the nearest competitors to the the EV-6).

Yes, I did a huge amount of research. And, yes, they do have a long way to go here, but they have come a long way and the infrastructure is beginning to really take off.

Thanks, Yvette. i did see all of the ping-backs come through. I will try to get something posted this morning, but it will most likely be more of a copy and paste of the main info from your post and then customized a little (another busy day!)

It is rated for 284 miles, and doing the math, if I was able to keep my average, I’d be able to get 325 miles. I’m not holding my breath ;) I’ll see what it is like driving to and from the Cape this coming weekend.

No gas backup, all electric. Electric charging infrastructure is a bit lagging in NH, but it is growing in larger urban areas and bigger Interstates. I have a chargers in both NH and on the Cape, so not a big deal for me since I do few long trips.

Riding my bike is always an option, but a 250 km peddle isn’t fun, particularly in the rain or snow ;) Public infrastructure isn’t quite there yet, I do have a charger installed, so hopefully fine.
