Hi All! It’s been an odd week overall, but I can’t say a bad week (unless I am talking about work ;) ). Anyway, although there were a lot of small things to smile about – pets, family, friends, etc – nothing stands out and I don’t want to do another “It’s the Small Things” post. So, what to write?
I sat down at my musical instruments Friday to play around, which isn’t unusual. I had a bass line that I wanted to play around with, so I recorded it. Next thing I know, two hours have gone by and I have a new song recorded! (I often go into a Zen Zone when I am being creative – I dive in and emerge some unknown time later with a creative piece of work started or even finished.) I am going to post about it tomorrow, so no more. But I do want to bring up a general pattern.
At the beginning of last year I thought I was back into music. I posted two new songs in November of 2021 and three in January of 2022, though one is a “cover tune” (still my arrangement, etc.). And then I worked for over a month on a more complicated piece, She Talks Each Night to Ariel (see my post here), which I consider the best thing I wrote/recorded since my days doing classical music. I posted in early March and thought I was off!
But life happened.
Although I put up old things through the year, I did not record anything new for over 8 months.
Anyway, I hope I am back into it. I wrote and posted two new songs in December, two new songs in January, and with this latest on Friday, two new songs in February. I did three other recordings in that time period that I am not including, such as my silly We Are Having test and the instrumental version of I’m Still Here that I talked about last week. (You can visit my YouTube channel if you want to see all that I have posted).
OK, so I did pretty well over a three month period last year as well. Why do I think it will continue this year since I came to such a sudden stop last year?
I can’t say it will, but I do have ideas, so…
Anyway, my smile is writing and recording a new song Friday evening and a hoped for return to more music writing.
What made you smile?
****
Come on, I’m sure you smiled at least once last week. Why don’t you share it? I hope you can join in!
Here is list of “rules” and guiding ideas. If you don’t have time to read it right now, just remember that this is an exercise to spread positivity. Don’t smile about the misfortune of others. Don’t smile in a way to excludes others. Make sure a 12 year old can read it.
To join in, write a post to share your smile and then leave a comment on this post with a link to your smile. Or, if you prefer, do a pingback to this post (pingback = have a link from your post to this one) (Note – pingbacks have been very inconsistent – please leave a comment :) ). You can post any time until next Sunday evening (to be simple, I will say midnight GMT, which is 7 PM Sunday for me). Note – I am no longer compiling the smiles into a weekly post as I used to – Sorry, I do not have time.

I think I started the weekly smile around the same time that you dropped off. Thanks, re: music 🙂

Creating new music is worth a big smile, and a contagious one. A good friend and I saw modern art in a museum yesterday. Really cool pieces.
