Sympathy for the Joker

PHOTO PROMPT © Liz Young

Life has always dealt me a strange card.  In fact, Since I was a child, I suspected that the deck was stacked against me.

No, doctor, I’m not complaining.

It’s just that, every time things start to go my way, I turn over the next card and it is always, ALWAYS, well, you know.  Hint: it is never aces.

Yeah, he caught me again and that is just my luck.  I should have won, but another trick of the cards.

Yes, doctor, I know the routine.  I’ve been here before.

But despite the winged vigilante, I will be free soon…

Yes, the title is a play on that Rolling Stones song… And, yes, the MC is a famous cartoon character turned movie star, played by many people from Jack to Heath to Joaquin (another Jack?) (of course, everyone loves Cesar…)

Interesting approach, Trent. I liked the Stones video, too.

Your story (and comments) sent me into a rabbit hole looking up nicknames for both characters. So clever. :-)

Not cards, comics… The MC here is the supervillain The Joker. I didn’t want to use his name anywhere except for the title. He has been captured by Batman (the wing vigilante in the story) and put in a mental institution (he is pretty insane). He is talk to a psychiatrist about himself as part of an in-brief. All of his references to cards are Jokers, like in the photo.
Anyway, I know, might not work if it takes more words to explain than to tell ;)

Well, honestly, I should have realized. . . .while not a great fan of the Batman genre, I am familiar with the characters and I should have picked up on it. Guess I was too concentrated on the cards :) Your story actually works extremely well . It’s my brain that wasn’t :)

It’s a new trick – I make you watch that card there while I do a slight of hand and pull out a joker over here… lol, when you said you were too concentrated on the cards, the first thing I thought of was a magicians trick. There always is an issue with using characters from popular media.
