“Ack, it’s smoky in here! Why’d she light a fire in the summer? Where is she?”
“She’s right there, doodling in her journal, as always… Oh.”
“Better writing than talking to that weird old guy, but she isn’t here. Her journal is, though.”
“What are you doing? That’s her private thoughts!”
“Look at this! This is just filled with gibberish and senseless scribbles.”
“Hmm, maybe not senseless…”
“This is the last entry. I wonder what it means?”
“Repeat the words the wizard spoke
Grow thin and turn to dusty smoke
Then to their surprise
Up the chimney you will rise”

Is that what Cheech & Chong meant by Up In Smoke? That was a different kind of magic. I see why they didn’t want their daughter talking to the old guy.

Cheech & Chong’s magic was a bit different – when you take a trip by going up in smoke with theirs, you never have to leave the house…

Love it Trent – reminded me of Harry Potter 🪄😊

Thanks! I wasn’t thinking of it, but they did have a spell to use chimney soot to travel, didn’t they?

Out of the chimney … as they say, ‘Reach for the stars!’ Nice.

Dear Trent,
Sounds like she won’t be back anytime soon. Magical tale.

A scene from Alice and her magical world.

Funny, I once read a story where some kids used Alice to figure out how to get to a different plane of existence and was thinking about that story (trying hard not to copy any part of it!) when I wrote this.

Aha! I like how you circled back to the smoke. I hope she knows the words back or the spell wears off (and she is near the ground when it does.) Lovely fantasy tale.

I do too! And I hope she is “together enough” when that counter spell is given (whether by her or time or..) Thanks!
