If We Were Having Coffee on the 18th of September, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a super strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is kind of funny out, warmish and humid. It will get almost hot with high humidity later today before we return back to normal early autumn weather on Sunday and Monday. It was a strange week weather-wise… Oh, where are we? Some may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire, and there is a story in that…

The main theme of the week has to be about dental work. I went in Tuesday afternoon for a filling. I had chipped the corner off of a tooth that had an existing filling back early last winter. Anyway, when they were starting to work on it they discovered that the damage had grown. I had lost the filling and had another chip. A decision was made to do a crown, but they couldn’t do it then. So the put in a blob-like filling while the admin people researched Insurance (or lack there-of – even my dental insurance sucks for dental work). I went back in on Thursday and had the the crown prepared and a temp put in. So I will have another visit later. Yuck…. One thing, I had planned on going to Cape Cod on Wednesday night. The Thursday appointment made that a no go.

If We Were Having Coffee on the 11th of September, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come take a seat and I’ll get you a large mug of very strong dark roast, a cuppa tea, or some other beverage. It is a beautiful day! The sun is shining and the sky is a deep blue. It started out almost cold, but is pretty warm now. You can feel Autumn in the air. Oh, where are we? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from New Hampshire.

OK, I can’t go farther without mentioning the date I wrote at the top of the post. Yeah, it has been 20 years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11. I have a friend who is a retired NYC firefighter who is down in the city this weekend. In 2001 I worked in the air traffic control facility that first reported the hijacked aircraft and made the decision to ground all of their planes – watching documentaries it is always interesting to see people I know being interviewed about it. So I am thinking about the date, but I don’t want to bring it up beyond acknowledging it.

If We Were Having Coffee on the 4th of September, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and take a seat! The temperature is perfect and the sun is out, though the table is in the shade. There is almost no humidity in the air, which is surprising. Well, maybe not: it feels like Autumn and it is September…. And where are we sitting this fine September morning? Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from Cape Cod.

OK, I have posted very little in the last couple of weeks. Almost nothing at all! I have been busy on many levels. A good thing is that I had this week off of work, so not busy there! Well, I was last week….

If We Were Having Coffee on the 21st of August, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and grab a seat! I’ll get you a nice dark roast or a cuppa, but let me know if you want something cooler – it is a bit steamy today. It has been very humid most of the week and will get worse as Henri makes his way up the coast. Where are we? Some may recognize the photo as being from New Hampshire

I left Cape Cod early Sunday, even if there was still family visiting. They are my wife’s family, and she was (is) still there, so not a problem. I brought Alexander back with me, but the dogs stayed on the Cape.

Work has been busy over the last week. I mean, it is usually busy, but it does fluctuate, and this was a busy part.

I did some work around the house, exercised and ran three times. I have been getting out of the routine, so it was a little difficult, but with a run last Friday (not included in the three), I have been pretty consistent for a week. I hope to keep it up… I walked, but not as much as usual – for one thing, Thursday was a washout. I also didn’t have as much time as I’d like. And the cat demanded on being out a lot ;) He was mad at me on Sunday when we got back, and actually tantrumed when I tried to bring him back into the house after our first couple of “walks”! After a day of getting used to NH again (read, sharing the house with Grace, who he hates), he was much better and quickly returned to normal. I also played a bit of music, keeping my synths on most of the day so I could play as I walked by, plus doing finger exercises at least once a day on the (real) piano. I did a little editing, but decided to let it sit for a couple of weeks so I can look at it with fresh eyes when I return to editing.

Today looks like it will be a nice day, so I need to get outside and move before the wet, tropical weather hits on Sunday – this will be a hot, humid week after the storm pulls that tropical air up here!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit :) If you have a coffee share, I will try to stop in, but, as usual, no promises (maybe on Sunday, when I will most likely be stuck inside). Hope you are having a great weekend!

Born to Be Wild?

PHOTO PROMPT© Lisa Fox

The used Harley cost a pretty penny and didn’t look anything like “Captain America’s” chopper, but I had to taste the wild wind and the freedom of the open road.  I was off to discover America some 50 years after Peter and Dennis.

Giving up the Interstates was difficult.  Too easy.

But the “real” America wasn’t much more difficult.

I stopped in some town in the middle of Missouri.  Or was it Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania or New York?

Same truck stop, same conversation, same culture.

Checking my phone for the 50th time that day, had I really found freedom?

I’m still in vacation mode, but will try to visit more stories than the last two weeks…

If We Were Havign Coffee on the 14th of August, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and I’ll get a nice mug of super strong dark roast or a.. hmm, maybe something cool! It is now afternoon and is hot and muggy. It has been a warm week and hot the last few days, but super humid all week. Out here in the backyard it is a little cooler and there is a breeze, but it is still a bit steamy. Oh, where are we? Some of you may recognize that photo at the top as being on Cape Cod.

So I had a nephew and a niece down all week. I did some stuff with them, but they had surfing lessons and I worked most of the week. I had some time off, though. Work was tough…

If We Were Having Coffee on the 7th of August, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and I’ll get you a nice strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or some other beverage! It is cool, but not too cool and a bit humid. The sun is shining and there is a nice breeze. Where are we? Some may recognize the Beatles mug at the top of the page as being on Cape Cod.

So I left “The Cape” last Saturday night and drove back down here on Wednesday evening. I had a lot to do in New Hampshire, so…

If We Were Havign Coffee on the 31st of July, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and Welcome! Come on over and I’ll get you a nice large mug of very strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is a bright and sunny morning. A little on the cool side (refreshing!) with a nice breeze. The humidity is as low as I’ve seen it in a long time. Perfect! Where are we? Some may recognize the photo at the top as being my backyard on Cape Cod.

OK, for starters i did pick up my car after the last coffee post. I even wrote a weekly smile post about it :)

Besides work this week, I had a Lions Club meeting. I think this was the first normal meeting in over a year. I had a dentist appointment (cleaning, etc.). And I had massage. I walked and played with dogs, walked and played with kittens and just walked on my own. I did a little work around the houses. I ran (I am not running enough and can feel it!). I exercised. I swam in the ocean yesterday afternoon, though it was just a quick dip.

Random Rambling About (My) Short Stories…

I am in the editing stage of a book of short stories.  This will be different from my other two books of short fiction in a number of ways.  The other two were both pretty eclectic, while this is all science fiction.  Seasons of Imagination had 36 stories and totaled about 71K words.  Embers had 22 stories and totaled about 90K words.  This book will only have 11 stories and be close to 75K words, so the average story length, having jumped for Embers, has jumped again.

I like short stories.  I like to read them, and I like to write them.  Although I like the novels and longer novellas I put out, I think my short stories (and short novellas) as given in these three collections are my best works of fiction.  I know this format is not the best if trying to sell books, but…  Both Seasons of Imagination and Embers have sold better than The Old Mill or The Haley Branch and much, much better than my two fantasy novellas, so…  They also each have almost as many reviews (or at least stars) as those three put together.

If We Were Having Coffee on the 24th of July, 2021 #weekendcoffeeshare

Hello and welcome! Come on over and take a seat. You can look off into the woods while I get you a mug of very strong dark roast, a cuppa tea or other beverage. It is a little cool this morning, but it will warm up into a nice late July day. Where are we? Some may recognize that photo as begin from New Hampshire.

OK, the big thing this week was my car, or lack there of. I was almost back from Cape Cod on Sunday when my car over heated. A few long waits while it cooled didn’t do any good. Anyway, So I left it for four hours while I went and got some coolant. Yeah, it leaked out as I was putting it in – not good! By the time I got home it was dry, though not overheated yet. I charged it (plug in hybrid = about 20 miles all electric) so I could drive it to get serviced. There were other issues, so I had them look at several things. Besides wildlife destroying pieces parts inside of the car and making a mess, there was a new water pump for the coolant (no animals involved in that one). I should be able to pick it up this afternoon….

This week there was work, dog walks and play, my walks and play, cat walks and play…. I ran once (been off running this summer!) but I should run today. Exercise. Reading and writing. Playing music (keyboards) and drawing.
