The Weekly Smile 11/12/2018 #weeklysmile

Back in August of 2013 I wrote “The End” at the end of a book I had written over the summer, The Fireborn.  My next move was trying to figure out what to do next.  All of my research pointed to a blog.

On November 11, 2013 I decided to go for it and opened my blog, Trent’s World, and put up the first post.  It was awful, but I had to do something!

Yesterday evening I still hadn’t totally decided on what I would write for this week’s Weekly Smile.  And then that 5-year blogiversary thing came up.  Yep, I knew.

Blog Anniversary (Blogiversary)

I had no clue what I was getting into at the time.  I fumbled along, thinking of an “on-line magazine” at first.  I finally settled on my own little thing, mostly creativity and compassion.  Yep, that includes the Smile :)

Over the years I have met a lot of great people here.  The blog is something that I smile about.

And celebrating five years of blogging gave me a big smile :)

If We Were Having Coffee on the 20th of October, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast.  You can also have a cuppa tea or other beverage.  It is actually not that cold out, but it is damp with occasional passing showers.  I want/need to get out!  I think I’ll risk getting wet….  And where am I?  Some may recognize the photo at the top as coming from Cape Cod.  Some may also realize that this is my first post from here in over a month!  I’m usually here every other week….

Anyway, a busy week.  But what did I do?  Hard to remember!

I did some winterizing in the house and broke down and turned on the heat.  I also did a little raking.  I still need to do the front yard, but…  i also need to rake here, on the Cape.  I brought my car to the shop for the yearly inspection and break emplacement… With my hybrids, the breaks always rust out before they wear out. Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea or other warm beverage.  It looks like a gorgeous fall day, but it is still a little chilly.  Not that it will be hot later, perhaps 68 F (20 C).  It is actually beginning to feel like autumn!  And were are we this week?  Some of you may recognize that photo at the top as coming from new Hampshire.

As I said, it seems fall has finally arrived.  The week started cold and wet.  But then it became warm and wet, hitting 80 F (27 C) on Thursday!  The leaves haven’t really changed much yet, but some are falling.  I want more color!

It was an odd week and I really don’t remember a lot.  I did some editing on my book of short stories and started working on the cover.  I did a little work around the house.  of course there was work work, which was busy, but not insane.  I had to go into the office on Wednesday because our Internet was out.  It was the entire town, so I couldn’t just go to the library.

I decided to bring The Weekly Smile back to my blog.  It went for almost 80 weeks, but I was pretty burned out by the end.  I was doing up to three Smile posts a week and only had two or three people join me.  It became a chore.  But it has been idle for about a year, so I think it is time to come back.  I will do just the main post (Mondays now) and a recap post.  Anyway, you can read more about it here.

Well, that’s about it.  I have a lot to do today.  I hope to be able to read all of the coffee posts, but can’t make promises, particularly to those who post Monday – by then my mind is off of a the weekend and it is hard to thing about these shares, but I will try.

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of a very strong Sumatra Roast.  I can also get you a cuppa tea or other beverage if you would prefer.  We can go out back and sit.  The early morning sun is gone, but it is still very comfortable out there.  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the stack of Beatles mugs as being at the cottage on Cape Cod.

This was a pretty good week.  Work is back to normal.  The emergencies from a few weeks ago are over and I have caught up from my vacation.  Still busy, but it always is.

The weather was odd, and not what it was supposed to be.  A big part of it was the left overs of Gordon changed the forecast drastically, making the weather last weekend into early this week change from sunny and pleasant to damp and cool.  Actually, it was down right cold for a couple of days. I’m Back! Maybe…

I am still here!  No, I was not eaten by sharks.  I just kind of faded away….

I was posting pretty regularly until about a month ago.  In the last month, well, I’ve had three posts in the last month…  Yeah, not very good.

But hopefully this little lull is over!

I have been reading some of your posts the last few days.  Not really catching up – that would be impossible!  But sticking my toe in the water so I can get back into it.

I may offer a little more detail later, but for now just a quick paragraph or two or three.

It started because I was ultra-busy at work.  I do read some posts and actually write some of my own posts, during breaks from work.  I had no breaks for a few weeks so no reading or writing.  I actually had one day that went from 6 AM to 10 PM without stop.  It was a Friday…  When I leave work after being beat up all day, the last thing in the world I want to do is sit in front of a computer….

A second part of why it started when it did is that I was a little down back in early August.  I’ll admit, a big part of that was after releasing The Halley Branch.  Does anyone else get a little “Post-Publishing Depression”?  At least this time I didn’t read a few long rants about how much people hate indie-author-bloggers, which I did after releasing The Fireborn….

After that I took a vacation.  I didn’t go far.  Actually, I spent a week on Cape Cod (surprise).  My parents came to visit during this week.  I did not feel like blogging at all.  I tried to stay away from the computer as much as possible.

And now I am back.

Hopefully I’ll have something a little more interesting for you soon :)

Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in.  I’ll get a mug of strong French/Sumatra roast blend, a cuppa tea, some juice or whatever.  It is sunny, but a little chilly out there.  Don’t worry, it will warm up.  There might even be thunderstorms this afternoon. And were are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being taken in New Hampshire.

The big thing to talk about is the return of Spring.  The trees have leafed out nicely.  Everything is very green, except where there are flowers.  I mowed the lawn.  I’ve worn shorts most of last week.  Spring has Sprung.  If it wasn’t for the roads looking like a war zone, you would never know that we had winter.

If We Were Having Coffee on the 12th of May, 2018

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in.  It is kind of cool and grey out there.  It’s been threatening rain all day, with a few sprinkles here and there, but so far the heavy rain has missed us.  If you are wondering where I am, some of you may recognize the photo at the top as being from my cottage on Cape Cod.

This has been another busy week.  Although Tuesday was a more “social” day at work, a large relatively informal gathering at the region office, most of the week at work was the week from Hell.  Well, not really, but it was busy and there were some not so good parts.  Hopefully I’ll return Monday well rested and ready to get back into it.

I came down to the Cape right after work on Tuesday.  Being at the Region Office put me over a third of the way here, so…  Also, I have my home set up as a telecommuting office, so no problems.  I was able to get out on the kayak after work on Wednesday and Thursday, made it to the beach with the dogs on Friday and did some walks in the woods.  I usually go to Chapin Beach on Saturday mornings, but because of the threat of rain, I took my walk in the woods.  I did see an immature eagle this morning, but I didn’t get any photos. Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice mug of a strong French Roast/Sumatra Roast blend, a cuppa tea of other beverage.  The sun is out!  It is relatively warm and going to get a little warmer!  So we may have to make this short – the world is calling, no, screaming my name, right now.  And where in the world are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo as being in New Hampshire.

First weather.  It was cold on Sunday and didn’t really warm up the way it was supposed to, it just stayed cold. The rain was supposed to hit in the evening and warm thing up, but it hit overnight and left two or three inches of slushy white stuff.  All though it rained hard all day Monday, the snow didn’t go away, just got messier.  It was a little warmer the rest of the week, but it was mostly cloudy so felt cold.  It also snowed a little on Thursday morning.  The ground was coated for a few hours.  Yesterday was warmer (50 F/10 C), but because of the clouds and wind it felt frigid.  today though…  And the forecast…  We may have Spring yet!

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice large mug of strong Sumatra Roast, a cuppa tea (various kinds) or other beverage.  It is still just a little cool and there and the wind is strong, but it is looking like a beautiful day!  And where are we?  Some of you may recognize the Beatles mugs as being on Cape Cod.

I have been out a little this morning.  I’ve played with the dogs twice – they love being out!  The run, fight, chase each other, ask me to throw stuff for them and then run some more, before finding a nice piece of wood to chew on while sitting in the warm sun.  I also went down the the beach.  It was cool and very windy, but nice.  On the way to the beach I was stopped in a little traffic jam.  A bunch of locals were crossing the road.  Overall there were about 30 of them.  They weren’t in any hurry and seemed to get irate if you tried to rush them.  I stopped and took some pictures.  Most of them ignored my, though a handful yelled at me in chorus whenever I turned their way.  They said “Gooblegobblegooblegooblegooble!”  Here is a picture of some of them strutting their stuff: Continue reading →

Coffee in NH with Moog

Hello and Welcome!  Come on in and I’ll get you a nice steaming mug of a strong Sumatra roast, a cuppa tea (many varieties), a mug of hot cocoa or other beverage.  It looks like it is going to be a lovely early Spring day out there.  Perhaps a little cool and too much snow on the ground, but sunny and, well, Spring.  Where are we?  Some of you may recognize the photo at the top as coming from Ireland New Hampshire.  Yes, I know, three weeks in a row.

Why am I in New Hampshire when I promised to be on Cap Cod?  We received our fourth Nor’easter in a row this week that hit at the time I was supposed to be traveling.  Up here in NH it was pretty much a non-event, but there was snow on the road on the way down.  I just didn’t want to risk it, so I wimped out.

This week I wrote a 15K story (novella?) that I’d been planning for a while.  I am a 100% panster.  Usually.  But I did do a little background work on this.  If I can bank it into shape you will see it in the short story book I plan on releasing in the late Autumn. Continue reading →
