The bones of ancient mountains watch us
Hundreds of millions of years old
Reminders of Pangea
When the young Earth was one
Sentinels of time
High granite walls
Always there
Placid
Still
Hear?
Thunder!
Clear white streak
Crashing water
Liquid knife cuts through
Never ceasing turmoil
Sounds of rush and glory
In an ever-changing rhythm
Life blood of a breathing planet
The ancient land is always made new

This was written for Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge. This week it was a photo prompt and, since I was chosen as poet of the week for the last photo challenge, Colleen used one of my photos. I wrote a double nonet for that hourglass shape. yeah, I like that form ;)

The photo is of Middle Purgatory Falls, Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. there are three beautiful falls on the Purgatory Brook as well as countless rapids and small waterfalls flowing into the brook.

The Appalachian Mountains were formed hundreds of millions of years ago when all of the plates bumped into each other creating a super continent, Pangea. This later broke apart, yet you can still see the shapes mirrored across oceans, and find rocks on one continent that seem to belong to another.

Only living for the moment
We move mindlessly forward
Harm gone unrecognized
Impact unnoticed
Neglect unseen
Greed unchecked
Selfish
Now
Gone
Future
Sands creep in
No going back
Relentless changes
Damage accumulates
Once pure is now decrepit
If we could see, could we change it?
Or is it too late to turn back time?

It happened again
How can a human do that?
Pain of the centuries
My hand fits nicely in yours
Bound by our humanity

Years ago they told us all is well
Humans judged by their character
Full equality for all
They said the world is fair
The battle was won
One family
United
In peace

They lied
Still two worlds
One rule for “them”
Fear of the other
Blind eye turned to the truth
Indifference to suffering
A world of hate and division
They said it was over years ago

Blackhole Mind

Why?

Billions of galaxies filled with billions of stars.  Although they say there are limits, for all practical purposes, it is infinite.  And then, from an unremarkable, insignificant dust speck in this seemingly infinite Universe we look up at it all in wonder.  We want to reach out and sample the vastness, wrap our imagination around it, but then on the other side, it is scary, it tests our ego, afflicts the very nature of our being.

A bit of animated matter
Making the effort to survive
What is the meaning of it?
A strange anomaly
Denies entropy
Grows more complex
Beyond that
It thinks
Me
I
I am
I must be
Make the attempt
To understand all
Actively seeks out
Weathers the many trials
More than unchanging matter
A will and a spirit to thrive
To find a place in the Universe
