Spring Sun light Warming days Still frosty nights I tromp through the woods New growth shoots welcome me The trees are budding, promising life Glowing yellows and baby greens But I spot a flash of burgundy The first rich, Earthy color of the year – Everyone notices those bright flowers Those extroverts of nature stand out Flashy in their new spring wardrobe Glowing in the springtime sun What about the hidden? What flowers are dark? Who speaks of soil Black and rich? Hidden You
This was written for Colleen’s weekly Poetry Challenge. This week we were asked to write on a theme given by Kat. The theme was “Pick a Flower and using one of the syllabic forms we use, tell us why it is special to you.” I chose to use a double etheree. And the flower I chose was the trillium, but that red trillium I see in New Hampshire, not the white ones I grew up with in Ohio. And yes, if you read my coffee post, that photo at the top may be one of the photos I use for my spring coffee shares…
End? Well, no Beginning! Transformation We are progressing Moving to the next phase Will it be that much better? Will this new world help everyone? Or will the powerful gain all? Can we pull together to make it work? The song right now seems to be in discord Dissonant factions play selfish tunes But there is cooperation Folk pushing positive change Helping hands reaching out Voices in accord Working as one Compassion People Hope
Hi Come in How are you? Sit for a bit I’ll get you a sweet Give you a nice goody Mix it up in the cauldron Wait while I get the recipe Cipher out the ancient words of lore Are you beginning to feel sleepy yet? Don’t worry about this razor I have Just need some special ingredients It’s a potion made once a year Full of intrigue and magic Sit still while I harvest Were you using these? Delicacy Special brew Great charm You
Careful of the witches brew, that human stew. Don’t ask what is on the menu, for you might find that it is you ;)
Written for Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge. These week the key Words were Spell and Treat, only we had to use synonyms and not the actual words. I did a double etheree.
Thoughts Ideas Bottled up Contained inside Waiting for release On an infinite sea Drifting on random currents Between far away island shores Forever self-contained but unheard And yet we are so close to almost touch
Written for Colleen’s Poetry Challenge. Colleen has changed her challenge to include photos as well as keywords. This is a photo week (see photo at the top of the page). For this week’s challenge I decided to do an Etheree.
So much hope!
The day unfolds
Now we have our chance
The future lies ahead
With a smile we move forward
Knowing we have time to achieve
No worries since we are at the start
Fulfill our dreams in that infinite day
We have used up too much time already!
What, it can’t be past noon already….
We must hurry and finish up
Those grains of sand drain away
The clock devours the day
Where does the time go?
We just started!
No more time
Written for Colleen’s Poetry Challenge. Each week she gives us two keywords, only we must use synonyms only, not the words themselves. This week the key words were the poet’s (me ;) ) choice, so I chose “Begining” and “Consume” This week I decided to do an ethree, well, actually a double ethree.
I look into a rose-tint fog and smile at the dancing shadows. A thin, transparent barrier divides me from this place. I imagine that I step through this wall of celluloid and find you still there, just as you were. I reach out, but grab only mist. You aren’t really here, are you? And neither am I, really. Is it real, or was it at one time? Perhaps that color I see has tainted all. The curtain comes down.
Lights Camera Memory Can it be real? Was it really me? And was it really you? In the movie, you loved me Your eyes glistened in the close-up The story unfolded on the screen Your presence stole every scene you were in That movie played out in a different world I memorized the script and action Or that is how it seemed Was it a work of fiction A script written by me Played out in my mind? Did you love me? Memory
The past Dream
Written for Colleen’s Poetry challenge. Each week she gives us two keywords, only we must use synonyms only, not the words themselves. This week the key words were the poet’s (me ;) ) choice, so I chose “Film” (yes, the title) and “Remembered” This week I decided to do a haibun with a double etheree.
Stop Listen I hear you Baring your soul Exposed to the world Telling deepest secrets Does anybody hear you Take time to cipher out the words Unravel your innermost puzzle Learn the intimate secrets of your mind? I think there is more there than people see I pull back the multilayered words Unravel the deep mystery I accepted the challenge I took the time to look Found the lost meaning And I found you In plain sight Poet You

Death A demon Heartless killer Relentless pursuit Across frozen wasteland Cruel eyes seeking my essence Looks for my warmth on frigid plane Follows my foot prints across the snow I don’t dare turn to see how near he is Not much further and I will find shelter I approach a bunker full of friends No fears can follow me in there Helping hands reach out for me A place out of harms way A place of comfort I have escaped No more fear Secure Home
Written for Colleen’s Poetry challenge. Each week she gives us two keywords, only we must use synonyms only, not the words themselves. The words this week are “Cold” and “Safe“. This week I chose an Etheree, well technically a Double Etheree.
Note – Fiyero (my boxer) resents my insinuation that he is a coldblooded killer ;) Yes, that is him up there chasing his “sister” Idina through the snow….
Me And You Our duty For liberty An obligation Paid with our fathers’ blood Yet no cost to perform it To express our inner believes To put our philosophy on line To choose the direction of our country I don’t understand why it is so hard So many ignore this basic right Some try to stop others from it People feel bound by their chains Stopped by constraints of time Break those nasty chains Open the door And join me Go out Vote!
Written for Colleen’s Poetry challenge. Each week she gives us two keywords, only we must use synonyms only, not the words themselves. This week we were given free reign to chose our own words. Mine were “Free” (including “freedom”) and “Act” (including “take action”). This week I chose a Double Etheree.
Curse I freeze Bedeviled You fill my mind Pervade my thinking Your essence follows me At home and at my hangouts A season full of bewitchment Your magic worked with a single word Leaving me flabbergasted and adrift Some say I am under your enchantment That I am entrapped in to your quicksand My soul is conjured to your whim You affect my every thought You ensnare my very mind I feel it is more The meaning clear Not magic Simple Love
So I went a different direction than you thought ;)
Written for Colleen’s Poetry challenge. Each week she gives us two keywords, only we must use synonyms only, not the words themselves. The words this week are “Haunt” and “Spell“. This week I decided to do a Double Etheree. I tried to use these words multiple times, with different meanings.
