Art at Trent’s World

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There once was a time when I used to put up a hand-drawn picture at least once a week.  I’d like to start drawing again, but it is time consuming.  As motivation, I’ll post some of my favorite art work, including those I did for The Halley Branch and The Fireborn.

Click on an image for detail.  When it is pulled up, you can scroll through them. Continue reading

Quick Sketch – Notre Dame

Notre Dame

If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time you’ve seen at least one post about my favorite city, Paris.  I’ve been there three times and have been in the city perhaps 20 to 25 days total.  The second time I was there I did some sketching.  It was fun to carry a sketch book around and just doodle.  I spent a lot of time drawing the rose windows of Notre Dame.  I filled pages of studies, but of course I can’t find them.  But then there is this sketch.  This is a study based on those original sketches plus a photo I took for reference.  I was planning a large scale very detailed drawing, but never got past this quick pencil sketch.  (I obviously didn’t use a straight edge for this sketch!)

I hope you enjoyed this bit of hand-drawn Paris!

The Art of Trent’s World (Again, again)

(This is another summer rerun.  Actually, I’ve posted this twice.  This time, however, I’m going to add a few more pictures to the gallery, almost doubling it.)

It began innocently enough.

Last December (well, December 2013!) I wrote a story about a hiker caught by a blizzard at the top of a New Hampshire mountain. I wanted an illustration. I was away from home and didn’t have any resources beyond a bland version of Windows paint. I spent a few minutes to make a quick B&W computer sketch and put it up.

The Magic Wand

Almost exactly a year ago I started work on a picture story, the magic wand.  I posted it May 2, 2014.  However, in ways I like the colorized version better.  If you have time, look at both and let me know what you think.

1. “Where have you been, Edward? We haven’t seen you in days.”

“I’ve been too busy to come out and play. Last week I received a magic wand for my fifth birthday and I’ve been practicing.” Continue reading

Faces and Fannies – A Class on Portrait and Figure Drawing

Boy portrait

Warning – This post contains drawings of the nude figure!  If you are at all squeamish about such things, turn back now.

About eight months ago I posted some examples of drawings I made while taking figure drawing classes.  In the post I talked about what it’s like to take such a class, i.e., that there is nothing at all sexual about it.  Recently I discovered some 18″ x 24″ notebooks from the last class I took, “Faces and Fannies”.  The class was given by children book author Marty Kelly.

I’m not great at portraiture and I enjoy figure drawing so this class was perfect for me.  It worked on a big weakness while inspiring me with my favorite type of drawing.  And I think I did some of my best drawings in this class. Continue reading

The Artwork of Trent’s World (the Blog) – Repost

(Sorry, I’ve been too busy to create a new post today.  Thinking of busy, I’ve also been too busy to make many new drawings.  After I posted this in August the number of new drawings slowed to a trickle.  It’s been months since I’ve put on up.  Soon…)

It began innocently enough.

Figure Drawing and Nude Studies

Censored

Note – despite the silly picture at the top, this post contains a couple of examples of figure drawing (i.e., nudes).

Yesterday I posted a picture of a sketch I made over a decade ago. What I didn’t say in that post was that three pages back there was this study: Continue reading

The Leaf

Icy Leaf

A little over a decade ago I took a picture of a leaf encased in ice and snow. I played around with the picture in Photoshop and came up with what I thought was a real cool image. The leaf looked like it was glowing with its own light. I showed it to a friend who owned an art gallery. He got excited and said I needed to make a painting based on the photo. He said to make sure the male torso was clearly visible.

Male torso? Continue reading
