The Weekly Smile for the 6th of June, 2022 #weeklysmile

Hi All! An odd wee for me. There were a lot of negatives – super stressful week at work, outside of the UK the news was all very depressing, there was a seemingly an endless barrage of hate and such coming through social media, etc., etc., etc. Ugh. I think everyone is feeling it for not only have I seen more hate on social media in the last week than ever before, I have also read more messages saying we need to step back and be thankful for all of the good, to keep that positive attitude, to be kind, to continue forward with a smile. I’ll admit that even though I write “The Weekly Smile” every week, it is often difficult to keep that positive attitude, so it was nice seeing all of those positive posts :) Thanks to all of you for posting those notes of positivity and kindness!

(Real quick aside, on the subject of kindness – I have four signs on my lawn, a pair on either side so cars can see from both directions. One of the pair is from our local Lions Club and says “Be Kind” in large letters and then some Lions stuff in smaller letters. The other is that “hate has no home here” sign you see all over. I make the Lions sign more prominent since the other seems to have taken on political ramifications – I want the message seen, not the politics.)

On to the post…

The Weekly Smile 12/31/2018

There was a lot to smile about this week :)  It was Christmas, of course.  I talked to family and friends.  I played with the dogs, walked on beaches, walked in the woods, did a lot of writing, some reading and other such stuff.  Here is a photo I took on Saturday:

But like last week, I want to use this week for more philosophic discussions.

Last week I said that one reason I do a Weekly Smile is so people can look back at their week and see that there actually was something to smile about, no matter how small.  Smiling, and happiness, isn’t something we need to go in search of, but something we have if we only recognize it.  Yes, people can have very hard times.  And there is mental illness that makes it impossible to see the good.  But if we take the time to think about it, it is the small moments, the little smiles, that make up our life.

This week I want to talk about why I started writing the Weekly Smile two years ago.  Yes, I do paste a little about it on every smile.  Have you read it lately?  Well, here is a little more.  (Note: Some might see what follows as very political.  It is, in a way, but ti is a tirade against the politics of division, not necessarily one party or another.  If you don’t want to read politics, just look at the pretty picture I posted, smile and skip to the end :)) Continue reading

The Weekly Smile 10/22/2018 #weeklysmile

Last week was the first of the new and improved Weekly Smile!  Check out the fresh new variety of sizes and colors.  Wait, wait, wait, this isn’t an old ad, is it? ;)  We had a great turn out, which made me smile.  I was little surprised since it was the first one, but not too surprised since it was actually the 89th smile, just with a 55 week pause in the middle.  Click here if you didn’t see the recap.

I have a lot to smile about this week, so it is hard to chose just one.

This was my first long weekend back on Cape Cod after over a month away, so that is great.  But I often felt that too many of my Smiles in the past were “I was on the Cape this weekend…” so I want to try something else.

I live in a small town in New Hampshire.  I have actually been in this town for 25 years!  I know a lot of people, yet I don’t.  One of my friends in town has only lived here for two years, yet it seems like she knows everyone.  She invited me to a party last night.  A triple, progressive party.  No politics where involved!  We started at one house for appetizers, progressed to another for the main course and then to a third for dessert.
