Happy Thanksgiving!

Although I write a lot about smiles, I don’t write much about gratitude or being thankful.  That’s not changing ;)  Oh well, I was off to such a good start here, and I blew it…..

Seriously, I know that I have a huge amount to be thankful for.  My entire life has been blessed in many ways.  I had a great childhood with great parents, both of whom are still with us.  I got along with my siblings and still do.  I was never social, but I have had, and still have, good friends.  I had a good education.  I have a good job.  I have had good health.  Still do!  I’ve seen and done a lot of things.  I’ve been to many places.  Had a very wide variety of experiences, many that most people will never have.  I often take these, and all of the other things that I didn’t mention (things, property, etc.) for granted.  I know that is bad and try not to, but I do.  i think we all do.  It is human nature, particularly for those of us who are doing well.  We forget.  or we don’t know. Thanksgiving

Looking at me

Thanksgiving here in the US means a lot of different things to different people.  I think that all of us need to sit back and take in one of the meanings: a time to reflect and be thankful.  Sure, there’s a lot out there that seems totally awful, from barrel bombs filled with chlorine killing little kids in Syria to police under large corporation control soaking people trying to protect their water on a freezing night.  Sometimes we are angry or sad, but every so often we do need to sit back and think about what we have.  So today I will participate in the “Full Grown Nerd’s” (Ms. Emily) “Three Things Thursday” thankfulness linkup.

Obviously there is family.  As I’ve said often in the last week, I had a good visit with my brother this weekend.  I just got off the phone with my parents and will most likely talk to them again later in the day.  I’ll also talk to my sisters this afternoon.  I have a pretty good relationship to my family, even if I don’t see them often.  I know a lot of people whose relationship to their siblings and/or parents is very dysfunctional.  That is something to be thankful for. Away….

Handmade Card

Hi all.  I just wanted to say that I’ll be away for a few days.  In fact, this post was actually written yesterday and just put on a schedule to be put up today.  For my friends who live outside of the US, Thursday is our holiday Thanksgiving.  Traditionally this is a time when people visit family.  We are no different and will be spending most of the week with family.  So you may see me pop up to say “hi” or click “like” but I will most likely not have any more posts until the 30th.  But then again, never say never….

Talk to you all soon!

Thanksgiving 2014

Handmade Card

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the US.  During this time we step back and take a look at the things we take for granted and give thanks for the things we have.  Personally, I give thanks for my friends and wonderful family.  Oh, the word “friends” includes those people out there that I’ve never met in the flesh but have come to know over the Internet.  I also give thanks for my health and my job.  And farther down on the list are all of the wonderful things I’ve been able to do and see and then there are the things I have.  I know I am blessed in all of the categories above, though I rarely think about how lucky I am.  Instead I tend to take it all for granted.
