Your One-way Portal #doublenonet

Image from pixbay.com by artist “Pretty Sleepy.”

the bejeweled future does beckon
visions of possibilities
but it is a one-way door
open, you can’t go back
point of no return
step towards death
forever
dead end
stop
time
onward
move forward
open that door
seek what is beyond
there is no other way
it is the past that is dead
create your possibilities
the bejeweled future does beckon

This was written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This week the poem’s form was poet’s choice, but a photo prompt was provided by Diana Peach. It was found on pixbay.com and was created by Pretty sleepy.” I chose to do a double-nonet due to the time nature of the image and resulting poem.

Blinders keep us focused on our “now”
Only living for the moment
We move mindlessly forward
Harm gone unrecognized
Impact unnoticed
Neglect unseen
Greed unchecked
Selfish
Now
Gone
Future
Sands creep in
No going back
Relentless changes
Damage accumulates
Once pure is now decrepit
If we could see, could we change it?
Or is it too late to turn back time?

This was written for Colleen’s weekly poetry challenge. This week was an Ekphrastic, that is, we needed to create a poem that explores a piece of art. Anita Dawes, who won last month’s Ekphrastic challenge, chose the image at the top, an image by mollyroselee from Pixabay. I chose to do a double nonet.

OK, not so subtle about our environmental impact ;) But Earth Day is almost here!

The Insistance of Time

Dawn!
A start
So much hope!
The day unfolds
Now we have our chance
The future lies ahead
With a smile we move forward
Knowing we have time to achieve
No worries since we are at the start
Fulfill our dreams in that infinite day
We have used up too much time already!
What, it can’t be past noon already….
We must hurry and finish up
Those grains of sand drain away
The clock devours the day
Where does the time go?
We just started!
No more time
Evening
Dusk

Written for Colleen’s Poetry Challenge.  Each week she gives us two keywords, only we must use synonyms only, not the words themselves.  This week  the key words were the poet’s (me ;) ) choice, so I chose “Begining” and “Consume” This week I decided to do an  ethree, well, actually a double ethree.

Time and Photos :(

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I used to do a weekly “Media Monday” post.  I’m not sure what happened to it.  Well, I do.  One thing you most likely know is that I take a lot of photos.  Unfortunately, I don’t have time to go through photos.  I have about 2000 photos that I’ve taken over the last three months that I have not looked at.  Anyway, the osprey chick and osprey butt at the top of the page is a sample of some of the photos I have taken without going through. The eagle photo below is another one.  Hopefully sometime I will find the time…

Effect and Cause

The Insistance of Time

So, why does time flow in one direction only, why doesn’t it go the other way?  There is nothing in the equations that describe how the universe works that says time has to have an arrow.  Typically what is time’s arrow is justified by cause and effect and by the lack of reversibility.

You drop a plate on the floor and it shatters.  The plate hitting the floor is the cause of the shattering, the plate falling is the cause of it hitting the floor and a combination of you dropping it and gravity is the cause of it falling.  Cause and effect and the idea that it can’t go backwards gives time its direction.  The “flowing backwards” part, you know, the plate spontaneously reassembling and jumping up to your hand, in physics is part of entropy.  The universe has a tendency to become more random, less structured.  It can be reversed in a location by adding energy, but you can’t add anything to the Universe as a whole, so entropy increases, i.e., time marches on.

But what about those bundles of reverse entropy called “humans”? Continue reading

Time

The Insistance of Prime

While searching for a topic for today’s post I realized that I haven’t complained about my lack of time in quite some time. Yes, I have had posts stating that I was taking a blog slowdown because of lack of time, but no posts were I have actually sat down and whined complained talked about my lack of time. It’s funny, these types of posts used to be a fixture here at Trent’s World and came up with clockwork precision. Oh well, I guess I just haven’t had the time to post one.

It isn’t that I’ve finally found myself rich with time. No, no, I haven’t found that elusive door to step sideways from the stream of time and make it stand still while I did the things I need to do. I still have that same lack of time as I’ve always had. I think it’s because I’ve been too busy to complain. It’s just awful when you’re too busy “doing” to complain that you don’t have enough time to do anything, isn’t it? Continue reading

For Another Day

Mad May Moon

You say
Let’s go play
But to your dismay
I say
Let’s save it
For another day
You ask again today
Oh, but life gets away
With the minutes of our lives we pay
To keep our troubles at bay
As we wait
For another day
There’s one thing I pray
That when on my deathbed I lay
I won’t regret waiting
For another day

Planned Work Slowdown

Selfie

The freezing rain stopped and mist was rising off of the parking lot in dragon fire tendrils.  I was doing my after-lunch laps, a routine I’ve had for most of my working life.  I’ve written at least three blog posts about the fact that I do a lot of my thinking and creative work while walking and my post-lunch walk is one of those times I let my brain have free rein.  Well, yesterday I was thinking.  That is always dangerous, me and thinking, but this time it might actually be pulling back from danger.  I decided I’m going to take a blog slowdown.  I won’t shut it down completely and I’ll still read a few posts, particularly when I really can’t do anything else, but I’ll slow down. Pendulum

Pendulum

Pendulum swings
From hyper inspiration
To now there is none

——

In many ways it seems that way. I’ll have so many ideas I can’t cover them all, I don’t even have time to write down a brief summary. Then the well goes dry.

However, it isn’t always the inspiration well that is dry; often it’s the perspiration well. Ideas still come but they lack the energy to express themselves. Continue reading
