Weekly Smile #WeeklySmile

So many smiles, so little time :)  I was on vacation last week and really didn’t say much about it on my weekly smiles.  I’ve been doing some creative work this week, but want to wait until I am finished to mention it.  Yesterday was a major holiday, US Independence Day (known simply as The 4th of July).  I listened in to a lot of our neighbor, Canada, celebrating their 150th birthday.  And the list goes on…

But I’ll do something different.

When I am on Cape Cod, there is a path in the woods about a mile from our cottage.  Every day I bring the dogs there for a long walk.  In fact, if I take them outside at around 3 PM, they will go to the car, sit, and stare at me until I let them.  It is almost impossible to not take them to the woods ;)  But I don’t do that in New Hampshire. I Want Your Smiles! #weeklysmile 45 Reminder

I spent the weekend on Cape Cod.  On the way back to New Hampshire I stopped in Milford, MA to charge my car.  My car is a plug in hybrid, so I get about 20 miles all electric when I plug it in.  Anyway, so, as usual, I did a long walk.

Today was a gorgeous day!  It was cool when I started, but warmed up nicely.  There are still some leaves left, so there was a surprising amount of color.  Sure, it was mostly browns, oranges, dark reds and dirty yellows, but still very pretty in a muted, earth-tone way.  There were a few people out walking, walking their dogs, running, bicycling and just enjoying the day.  There is a little park near a mill pond.  A lot of people were in that park, sitting and reading, or talking or playing.  The sound of children’s laughter rang out.  I walked about five miles and it was great. A Smile a Day – Day 12 – Walk

woods

Woods

It’s a very busy day.  Outside it is kind of cool and damp.  So even though it isn’t cold, it feels cold.  And yet, when I finally have a spare minute, do you know what I did?  That’s right, I took a walk.

I have to walk every day.  It is more than a want, it is a need.  Although it has been a while, I have written several posts about walking.  Here is one of the posts that has links to a BBC article and to two other posts.

My walk did me good.  I am back at my desk ready for a work with a smile on my face.

(My walk today wasn’t in the woods – this picture was from this summer)

Walking & Creativity Part III

Footprints in the Sand - A Long Walk

Footprints in the Sand – A Long Meandering Walk

I’ve written at least two posts about walking and creativity: The Unwritten Backstory and Take a Hike, Kid. I’ve also mentioned numerous times that I get the bulk of my ideas when I’m taking a walk. I found this article on the BBC very interesting: The Slow Death of Purposeless Walking

I walk almost every day, even if I have to get wet or walk in a blizzard. It’s necessary for my mental well-being. Looks like I’m good company
